My lair's own fearless, feisty, fashion-forward, flawless, and, uh- *flips through dictionary* -fabulous pirate crew, for talk like a pirate day!
Captain Karkoff has always provided a welcome ship for dragons of all walks of life... Which, somehow, has led to a crew entirely comprised of fellow trans women (alongside eager genderfluid cook Bobbie, who they've been told is a demon, and sometimes a guy, but love nonetheless)- which suits them all just fine. However, the crew's pirating days almost seem to be coming to an end, with swordfights and ship battles dwindling in exchange for hitting up port cities and beaches with their abundant remaining riches.
With the topic of the day being pirates, any and all questions about the crew and its members would be appreciated!
what does everyone think of Nihlia's hurdy-gurdy playing?
They love it!
In all fairness, Nihla was formally trained as a bard, with the hurdy-gurdy as her instrument of choice. So she's pretty darn good at it! And, on top of being a decent person, that's one of the reasons Karkoff let her join the crew. She would have rescued Nihla regardless, but, even if Nihla isn't a great fighter, her musical skills are second to none (according to the crew), and... Well, she's a big ditzy gal with a nice demeanor and nicer voice, it would have been very difficult for alot of crew members to argue against her sticking around.
Anyhow, any good pirate crew needs someone musically inclined (according to the crew). An instrument is just a nice bonus, what really counts is having a repertoire of sea shanties and other tunes at the ready- which Nihla does!
oh yea this is a Gaoler I bought... def gonna be part of Karkoff's crew cause why not
my very vague ideas so far for her (Nihla) are
- pirate bard? trained as a bard, became a pirate
- big, fluffy, could probably make a good Seeker but she's kind of spacey. somewhat oblivious to danger because potential threats usually don't think they can take her. they don't know she's not been properly trained in combat
- trans lady. obviously. it just seems like step one of being on the crew now (unless you're Bobbie)
- might give her swirl eyes
- probably kidnapped by a different pirate crew at first and kept around because she could lift heavy things
- until Karkoff/her crew got into a fight with that ship and boarded it? Nihla dug their style and went "wait wait I wanna get out of here. I can play music" and Karkoff basically went ok w/e
- that's it
- dunno what instrument she plays
- despite having a choice now she stays on the ship because she likes traveling. also everyone there is her friends
Random sketches of characters. First one's Nihla and the second one's Austin, a flame elemental. Also, I noticed that in some of my human drawings I tend to draw the heads too big, but ah well. I'll get better at it soon.
“All right, shithives, close your mouths and open your ears, because we’re learning about Mana Fonts.”
“Mana fonts are actually fairly simple to explain- they are specific places in the world where Mana is produced naturally, coming out of the planet like springs of water. They’re located all over the world, usually right over major cities- and trust me, that’s no coincidence. People, consciously or no, flock to these areas to settle. In mana-rich environments, crops have a better chance of succeeding, livestock and people grow healthy and strong, and people in general can tell there’s just something good about the area, as fantastic events and land formations can occur at these fonts.”
“Currently, in this world, there are several mana fonts that can be identified, and given what I just told you, this probably won’t come as a shock. The locations are the Demon’s Ingle in Chon’sin, Ylisstol, Mount Prism, The Dragon’s Table, and the Mila Tree.”
“And speaking of the Dragon’s table, it’s time to bring up an unpleasant point- Mana Fonts can be used by the people- for good or ill. The massive amounts of energy flowing through these areas mean that literally anything is possible. Anything. The resurrection of the Fell Dragon was due in a large part to the energy supplied by the Mana Font. If they tried to do it anywhere else, they would have failed.”
“However, on a more pleasant point, natural miracles can occur on these fonts as well. The World’s only known Mila Tree grows over one of the fonts, and is the only place to find Mila wood and resin- essential components when forging Dragonbone. And Mount Prism, well- it’s probably the only place in the world you could pull off something like the Awakening Ritual.”
