~..𝙈𝘼𝙍𝙄𝘼 𝙉𝙄𝙆𝙊𝙇𝘼𝙀𝙑𝙉𝘼..~ . Grand Duchess Maria "was more remarkable for her goodness than anything else, but she also learned very quickly. She was always very anxious to begin lessons and she would listen and look and try to reproduce. She was always perfectly healthy, and used to express pretty freely her desire to be ill, to stay in bed and have her doll all day, and to get medicine and have the doctor see her–until she got influenza. She was very sad then and felt a great deal of pity for herself. She used to look out in the streets for people whom she used to call afterwards, “My Friends,” and was very sorrowful if I did not always recognize them. “You know,” she would say, “the lady in Peterhoff who wore the green hat? I saw her to-day on the Nevsky.” She never confused anyone; she has the true ‘royal memory’ for faces. She has great determination, and whatever she attempts to do she always finishes and carries through. Beautiful portrait of Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna by Gau Vladimir Ivanovich in 1840s.
Grand duchess Nikolaevna was the daughter of Nicholas I and Charlotte of Prussia(Alexandra Feodorovna). She died with 19 years old (1844) with tuberculosis.
Grand Duchesses Olga (1895-1918), Tatiana (1897-1918), Maria (1899-1918) and Anastasia (1901-1918) of Russia, in 1904.
“Rank meant little to the girls. They worked alongside their maids in making their own beds and straightening their rooms. Often, they visited the maids in their quarters and played with their children. When they gave instructions, it was never as a command. Instead, the Grand Duchesses said, ‘If it isn’t too difficult for you, my mother asks you to come.’ Within the household, they were addressed simple Russian fashion, using their names and patronyms: Olga Nicolaiavna, Tatiana Nicolaievna. When they were addressed in public by their full ceremonial titles, the girls were embarrassed. Once at a meeting of a committee of which Tatiana was honorary president, Baroness Buxhoeven began by saying, ‘May it please Your Imperial Highness…’ Tatiana stared in astonishment and, when the Baroness sat down, kicked her violently under the table. ‘Are you crazy to speak to me like that?’ she whispered.”
