Abra de Ilog: A full and memorable day of communion with the Creator and His creation in community. First, a morning boat ride to enjoy a cool freshwater swim in a hidden waterfall spot, followed by a dip in the warm ocean with the waves lapping over us as we swam around. Then, a walk along the beach marveling at a pool of little tadpoles and froglets as well as selecting some beautiful mutlicoloured pebbles. To then bumping into some Iraya gals who sold us some shells they had collected.

Later, back at the house, all of us pitched in to prepare our dinner. We pounded cassava from Mangyan friends to make nilupak; we made soup from the shells we got earlier that morning; we grilled fish from one of the local fishermen; and charred eggplant to make classic ensaladang talong. All of this was paired with delicious Mindoro rice.

After eating our festive meal, we spent the next couple hours singing praises to our Creator through song. It just so happens that the group I was with included three gifted musicians, two of whom were formally in a band that toured around Asia. A perfect way to end a treasured day together by lifting up a "joyful noise" to our Maker.
