Gustav is not very friendly :( (he is toxic asshole). As a guest, he would have been on the same team as the Pale man, but Gustav was quite selective even as a guest. Pale man would have respected him for this, as Gustav sends him off in the same way as the protagonist (he definitely likes this trait in both people and guests).
