28 November 2024: Veel grond- en oppervlaktewater in Nederland bevat te veel stikstof en fosfor. Daarmee voldoet Nederland niet aan de Europese Nitraatrichtlijn.
Door te veel stikstof en fosfor voldoet in veel wateren de biologische waterkwaliteit niet en staat de kwaliteit van het drinkwater in sommige delen van Nederland onder druk.
Dat blijkt uit het rapport Landbouwpraktijk en waterkwaliteit in Nederland 2020-2023.

This news in English: In many places, the groundwater and surface water still contains too much nitrogen and phosphorus. As a result, the Netherlands is failing to meet the targets of the European Nitrates Directive.
Due to an excess of nitrogen and phosphorus, the biological water quality in many bodies of water in the Netherlands is not sufficient, and the quality of drinking water in some parts of the Netherlands is under pressure.
