8 Januari 2025: Er is veel aandacht voor een uitbraak van het humaan metapneumovirus (hMPV) in China. Het virus komt daar nu vaak voor en zorgt daar voor ernstige klachten zoals ontstekingen van de luchtwegen. In Nederland zien we nu geen uitbraak.

18 December 2024: We onderzochten welke ontwikkelingen de meeste invloed hebben op de palliatieve zorg in 2050. Dat zijn de vergrijzing, toenemende personeelstekorten, digitalisering en andere technologische vernieuwing in de zorg, en de groeiende diversiteit in de samenleving.

Op basis daarvan beschreven we drie mogelijke scenario’s waarin óf de gemeenschap, óf het individu, óf de professional centraal staat.

17 December 2024: Ruim één op de tien Nederlanders van 18 jaar en ouder beweegt genoeg minuten, maar te weinig verspreid over verschillende momenten in de week. Daardoor voldoet deze groep nog niet aan de Beweegrichtlijnen van de Gezondheidsraad (GR).

Als zij door de dag heen structureel iets vaker actieve keuzes maken, halen ze de richtlijnen wel. Bijvoorbeeld door voor de fiets in plaats van de auto te kiezen of de trap te nemen in plaats van de lift.

This news in English: More than one in ten Dutch people aged 18 and over engage in sufficient minutes of physical activity, but do not sufficiently spread out this throughout the week. As a result, this group does not meet the Physical Activity Guidelines of the Health Council of the Netherlands (Gezondheidsraad).

They would meet the guidelines if they were to make active choices more often during the day and throughout the week. People could, for example, use the bicycle more often instead of taking the car, or regularly take the stairs instead of the elevator.

12 December 2024: In Nederland worden voedingssupplementen verkocht waar de stoffen N-acetylcysteïne, L-cysteïne en/of L-cystine in zitten. De supplementen zijn bedoeld om het lichaam te helpen ontgiften.

Er zijn supplementen die bij gebruik volgens de verpakking leiden tot inname van een hoeveelheid die bijwerkingen kan geven. This news in English: In the Netherlands, food supplements are sold that contain the substances N-acetylcysteine, L-cysteine ​​and/or L-cystine. The supplements are intended to help the body detoxify.

5 December 2024: Mensen kunnen via allerlei bronnen in aanraking komen met chemische stoffen, zoals cadmium en lood. Bij het binnenkrijgen van te veel cadmium en lood kunnen op de langere termijn de nieren minder goed gaan werken, vooral bij oudere mensen.

We onderzochten bloed en urine van 50-plussers op cadmium en lood. Daaruit blijkt dat zij opgeteld te veel van deze stoffen binnenkrijgen.

This news in English: Through various sources people may come in contact with chemical substances, such as cadmium and lead. Ingesting too much cadmium and lead can cause kidney function to deteriorate in the long term, especially in older people.

We've tested the blood and urine of people aged 50 and over for cadmium and lead. Tests showed that they ingested too many of these substances.

28 November 2024: Veel grond- en oppervlaktewater in Nederland bevat te veel stikstof en fosfor. Daarmee voldoet Nederland niet aan de Europese Nitraatrichtlijn.

Door te veel stikstof en fosfor voldoet in veel wateren de biologische waterkwaliteit niet en staat de kwaliteit van het drinkwater in sommige delen van Nederland onder druk.

Dat blijkt uit het rapport Landbouwpraktijk en waterkwaliteit in Nederland 2020-2023.

27 November 2024: 📈Meer mensen in Nederland hebben het RS-virus. De meeste volwassenen worden alleen verkouden. Maar vooral baby’s jonger dan 1 jaar kunnen erg ziek worden. Het RIVM vraagt artsen en ouders alert te zijn op baby’s en jonge kinderen met klachten zoals neusverkoudheid en hoesten. Raadpleeg de huisarts bij ernstige symptomen zoals benauwdheid, piepende ademhaling en sufheid.

This news in English: 📈More people in the Netherlands are infected with the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This virus is mainly seen in winter. Most adults with RSV only have a nasal cold. However, babies under 12 months can become very ill. Some hospitals have already admitted young children with RSV. RIVM is asking doctors and parents to be alert to babies and young children who have relevant symptoms such as breathing rapidly or wheezing, or lethargy.

27 November 2024: Vandaag publiceren we de nieuwe Volksgezondheid Toekomst Verkenning (VTV). In de nieuwe VTV bespreken we ontwikkelingen in de volksgezondheid en zorg richting 2050. De belangrijkste ontwikkeling voor de volksgezondheid blijft de vergrijzing.

19 November 2024: Het aantal soa-consulten bij de Centra Seksuele Gezondheid daalde in de eerste helft van 2024 met 8% t.o.v. dezelfde periode vorig jaar. De daling was vooral te zien bij vrouwen en heteroseksuele mannen. Dit staat in de nieuwe Thermometer seksuele gezondheid.

Oorzaak van de daling van het aantal soa-consulten is niet duidelijk. Waarschijnlijk heeft de daling voor een deel te maken met de gestegen kosten van een consult voor de Centra Seksuele Gezondheid.

This news in English: The number of STD consultations at the Sexual Health Centers fell by 8% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. The decrease was mainly seen among women and heterosexual men. This is stated in the new Sexual Health Thermometer.

The cause of the decrease in the number of STD consultations is not clear. The decrease is probably partly related to the increased costs of a consultation for the Sexual Health Centers.

18 November 2024: Het percentage bacteriën in Nederland dat ongevoelig is voor antibiotica was in 2023 ongeveer even groot als in 2022 blijkt uit onderzoek.

Wel worden er steeds vaker zeer resistente bacteriën gevonden.

Aandacht voor antimicrobiële resistentie en goed gebruik van antibiotica blijft daarom nodig. Resultaten over antibioticagebruik en -resistentie bij mensen en dieren staan in het rapport NethMap/MARAN 2024.

This news in English: The percentage of bacteria in the Netherlands that are insensitive to antibiotics was about the same in 2023 as in previous years. These findings are from research on antimicrobial resistance. Highly resistant bacteria are being found more and more often, however.

15 November 2024: Ondanks een lichte stijging zit er nog steeds weinig radon in woningen in Nederland. Zeker in vergelijking met andere Europese landen. Dat blijkt uit onze metingen in bijna 2.700 woningen. De hoogste radon waarden zijn gemeten in Zuid-Limburg en het Gelderse rivierengebied

Radon inademen kan longkanker veroorzaken. Het is niet te voorkomen dat radon in huis komt, wel kun je het huis goed ventileren. Dat voorkomt dat radon zich in een ruimte ophoopt.

14 November 2024: We hebben een methode ontwikkeld waarmee bevoegd gezag kan toetsen of recreatie op gesloten stortplaatsen veilig kan.

Om te voorkomen dat schadelijke stoffen uit afval in de leefomgeving komen, moeten gesloten stortplaatsen volledig worden ingepakt.

Op enkele plekken zijn stortplaatsen niet volledig afgedekt, om natuurlijke afbraak van schadelijke stoffen te onderzoeken. Met onze methode kan worden beoordeeld of recreatie veilig kan.

To prevent harmful substances from waste from entering the living environment, closed landfills must be completely covered.

12 November 2024: In tien jaar tijd is het aantal meldingen van longontsteking, bij mensen die in Nederland besmet raakten met legionellabacteriën, meer dan verdubbeld. Het aantal meldingen steeg van 180 in 2013 naar 484 in 2022. In 2021 was er zelfs een piek van 555 meldingen. De stijging lijkt deels te komen door het type weer. Dit blijkt uit een inventarisatie van het RIVM.

This news in English: Reported cases of pneumonia among people infected with Legionella bacteria (legionellosis) more than doubled in the Netherlands over the course of ten years. 7 November 2024: In 2023 is met de drie bevolkingsonderzoeken naar kanker bij ruim 27.000 mensen kanker of een voorstadium daarvan gevonden, blijkt uit de monitors over de bevolkingsonderzoeken naar darmkanker, baarmoederhalskanker en borstkanker. Door mee te doen, kan kanker worden voorkomen of vroeg worden opgespoord.

This news in English: In 2023, the 3 population screening programmes for cancer revealed cancer or precancerous abnormalities in more than 27,000 people. This is evident from the monitoring reports on the population screening programmes for colorectal cancer, cervical cancer and breast cancer. Taking part in population screening programmes makes it possible to prevent cancer or detect it at an early stage. In the latter case, less intensive treatment will often be possible and the chance of survival will be higher.
