Part 2
There wasn't anything special about you. You just lived quietly, working with the cards that the life had dealt you. a simple primary school teacher. You loved your job, truly. seeing your pupils achieving something was filling your chest with warmth.
Of course there were bad days, where everything just felt wrong. your amazing pupils were behaving differently, their parents demanding things from you that were definitely not in your power to give. On such days you were quietly crying in your pillow, because you had no one to talk to.
Sure, you had a few friends, but you felt like you were constantely complaining to them. so you usually kept quiet. silently listening to your friends as they talked about everything.
Your life was simple, quiet, predictable. until it was not. The day started as usual. You woke up, skipping breakfast and rushing to work. until everything started crumbling. Children just refused to listen to you, no matter how hard you tried to focus them during the lessons. When you sent children home and was about to leave the school, one of the parents called you and screamed at you because their precious baby returned home with a hole in their's puffer jacket. the parent didn't want to hear your explanation that the child probably was playing outside after school had ended and somehow tore his puffer jacket.
On the way from work you slipped and sprained your ankle. So when you finally returned home you were overwhelemed and on the verge of crying. You went through your evening routine just waiting for your day to be over. You didn't even want to talk to your friends because you would definitely cry. And you hated crying in front of anyone. You finally slumped on your bed, crawling under the soft blanket. Bitterness bubbled in your chest as you thought about going to work tomorrow with a sprained ankle and trying to keep up with a whole class of energetic kids. Your school was really understaffed so there was no one to cover for you for a few days.
With a heavy sigh you closed your eyes and immediately fell asleep. You jolted awake when you realised that the light was seeping through the curtains but you haven't heard your alarm. Not a single one out of the five you set. Did you oversleep? Adrenaline coursed through your veins as you jumped out of the bed and froze. You blinked once, twice. Looked around you. Shut your eyes tight, counted to ten and opened them again. That was not your room. You looked around trying to find your phone and glasses or any of your things. but everything looked unfamiliar. You felt dread creeping up your spine. Where were you? How did you end up here? What if you weren't alone? You strained your ears trying to hear if someone else was there. But you only heard the sounds of the city outside the window and a soft ticking of a clock.
Gathering your courage you slowly stepped out of the bedroom and entered a spacious living room, decorated with a light-colored furniture, and tall windows almost covering the whole wall. And was that a holographic projection on them? You felt dizziness and turned away from the windows. You didn't notice a crow sitting outside and looking intently at you. You stumbled through the apartment looking for the bathroom. In the back of your mind you noted that your sprained ankle wasn't hurting anymore. and you saw everything clearly even though you didn't have your glasses, but you pushed the thought aside.
Finally finding the bathroom (that was much bigger than your own) you leaned on the sink and splashed cold water on your face. Then you looked up in the mirror in front of you and screamed. An unfamiliar face was staring back at you, her mouth opened in a silent scream. You hand snapped to your face, covering your mouth. the person in the mirror did the same.
Panic washed over you, your heart beating out of you chest. You slumped on the floor next to the sink. Your mind was struggling to keep up with everything. Tough day at work, sprained ankle and now this. A tight knot that was coiling in your chest finally bursted and a strangled sob left your lips. Then another one. The dam was broken, unable to withstand the swirling emotions. You wailed, lying on the cold tiles of someone else's bathroom, with a face that was not your own. Confused and scared You wailed until your tears dried up and you passed out from exhaustion.
Yyour alarm ringed loudly. You groggily opened your eyes, mind still dazed with sleep. Until the memories flooded you. Your eyes snapped open and you immediately squinted trying to see your surroundings. Your hand reached for your glasses on the bedside table. You put them on and finally could see clearly. That was undoubtedly your room. You grabbed you phone and turned on the front camera. You looked like yourself, just frightened.
Another alarm ringed and you finally glanced at the time, realising that you slept through three alarms. All thoughts vanished from your mind as you rushed through your morning routine, wincing as your sprained ankle reminded of itself, and went to work. The routine of your life quickly returned and you chalked your strange experience to a tricks of an exhausted mind and vivid dreaming. your life was normal again. predictable.
Until you woke up in that bedroom again.
