Love is irreplaceable by other activities and refuses substitutes.
L. P. Hartley, from My Fellow Devils
The Shivvers - No Substitute (198?)
The Shivvers were a Milwaukee power pop group fronted by singer /songwriter Jill Kossoris. They looked to be on the verge of breaking through in the early 80s but things fell apart. A shame cause they’ve got some good tunes.
It’s really that simple
Thandiroq hurried back to the ruined temple, looking to speak with the dragon within, his pace slowing as he enters as he sees Crystal sitting before Hypnosus. He was unconscious, fallen into a deep slumber, caused by when he fainted during a thunderstorm. That is what she told him had happened, and he had no reason to distrust her words. She mentioned that she heard it not uncommon for dragons to take long rests, especially the green ones and perhaps that’s what this was. At least that is what Thandiroq hoped all it was, his mind going back to the nightmare he had at the beach. Hypnosus just needed some time and rest, to recoup his strength. Crystal stood from her spot, mentioning something about being hungry and motioned towards a container full of fresh. Thandiroq’s stomach growled lightly as he suddenly realized he had gone more than a day with anything to eat himself. She offered to cook him a meal, with which he graciously accepted and soon they sat before a grill as fresh caught fish began to fry in a pan.
It was perfectly cooked, not surprising, as she had said that one of her passions had been for cooking. “My compliments to the chef.” A happy groan escaping as he took a bite of the fish, his eyebrow arching as he looked to Crystal. “My highest compliments.” Thandiroq slowly ate the fish, small bites at a time as he began to talk with Crystal. The conversed on what it is that she would like most to see, to try, she revealed to him a companion of her own. A Cloud Serpent that was gently coiled on her neck, Thandiroq eyed the creature with a curious look as it floated near him. The things that Crystal kept revealing to him about herself, constantly surprising him. He then confessed his envy for the Kaldorei monk, as he recalled fondly how he felt when first seeing new lands and experiencing new things on an adventure. Thandiroq was at peace as he sat there, feasting on the fish and partaking in the small talk with Crystal. All worries and questions from the last day gone as he spent time with the Kaldorei woman. He smiled warmly at Crystal as he rose from where he sat. “Thank you, for accompanying me, for cooking me a meal and for caring for Hypnosus.” He glanced over his shoulder to the slumbering dragon. “And for the talk, it’s helped to clear my mind.” He smiled once more as he looked to Crystal. “If anything changes or you need me, call for me, I need to go for a walk. Need to stay in shape.” He said with a chuckle as he began to head towards the lake, offering a wave to the monk as he moved on.
Perhaps it was the meal, perhaps it was the talk or maybe it was just the company in general. Thndiroq’s mind remained free of worry as he made his way to the beach and layed down once more on the shore of the lake. His eyes closing and soon after he fell into a slumber. No dark dreams, no nightmares, no visions or memories entered his mind as he slept. He would awake a few hours later to the sun sinking below the canopy of Feralas and he sighed happily. “My compliments to the chef, indeed.”

RIP Bernie Casey (1939-2017)
My favorite role is him as Spender, a reluctant explorer in the 1980 NBC tv mini-series, The Martian Chronicles. (1:47)
