To Be Black is to be your fullest self, with no limits. Black people across the diaspora are often put in a box because of centuries worth of stereotypes that are held against us. A lot of us are being juggled between being "too black" or "too white." But there isn't one way to be Black and I believe that is what makes us beautiful. Blackness comes in many forms and as a community we will not be fully united until we fully love every aspect of being Black. 

To Be A Woman is to be free in your own terms, fighting the barriers of patriarchy, and celebrating ALL women. Fertility, modesty, and femininity does not make you any less or more of a woman. The same goes for infertility, immodesty and masculinity. Women need to be uplifted, not judged for the choices they make according to their sexuality, morality and life goals (unless it's harmful or bigotry). Women deserve the right to their bodies.

To Be Alive is to be a living, breathing and contributing person on this planet. Letting someone's culture or identity become a fear because you're not comfortable with their customs is what creates war and hate. It is not our jobs as humans to make everyone like "us." We must acknowledge and celebrate the different ways people choose to identify, live, and love (not excusing bigotry & hate).

I heavily debated sharing this because I don't think hate deserves a moment of our time but I also think that there are too many people who think what I'm about to share never happens. However, I think letting things like this pass without comment allows hate to fester in the shadows. As you all know we released this amazing image yesterday with a message of love and inclusion. Unfortunately someone took this image and turned it into an image full of hate. You can see their version at bit.ly/Hate19 but please be warned that it's an image that most of you will find hurtful. I certainly did. Here's the thing. We don't live in a world where everyone is equal and we don't live in a world where we can afford to be complacent, because those who are spreading hate still exist. I don't really want to use this opportunity to advertise our Etsy store, but I also don't know a more effective way to fight hate than to spread messages of love and acceptance on the things we wear, put on our cars, or stick to our notebooks. I don't know how else to push the hate back down if we aren't proudly wearing our beliefs of compassion and acceptance on our literal sleeves. So please, share this image everywhere. If you get a shirt wear it proudly. If you get a magnet point it out to that racist family member when they come to visit and say something unacceptable. Hold people accountable for what they say and do.
