Glenn Danzig Black Aria (1992)

Before the turn of the millennium, (Officer) Tim and I stopped at the record store where they offered excess inventory for $3.99 a cassette. Guess who walked out with Black Aria? Not me, though. However, I did walk out with The Revolting Cocks’ Linger Fickin’ Good (1993) for the same price. It wasn’t until only a couple of years later which I finally ordered this album online; one of the first I ever placed. Better two than twenty years down the road.

Danzig / Samhain / Misfits fans have been so used to their metal output that Glenn Danzig himself warned that Black Aria would not be a traditional metal release. It was that far of a departure. No guitars, no drums, no bass, and none of Danzig’s vocals to be had. Only orchestral instrumentation and the occasional synth. But, his fans went for it anyway and Black Aria hit the top of Billboard’s classical charts. This, literally, is music calming the savage beast...at least the first eight tracks which relaxes it on a very tall stone pillar perch until “Cwn Anwnn” wakes it up vigorously and ready to be unleashed to the world.

Unofficial Plan 9 single-sided etched red copies were also released.

Me and my friends all had glasses and we noticed that our glasses were all different. Marielle's glasses was made out of plastic, Francine's glasses were made out of metal, and mine was made out of plastic and metal. So I pointed at Marielle's glasses and said "Non-metal", and then I pointed at Francine's glasses and said "Metal", and pointed at mine and said "Metalloid". And boom. I just applied our science lesson in real life.
