I just want to take a moment and say how much I appreciate life. I go about my days sometimes forgetting that I could leave this Earth at any moment. I don’t think that’s necessarily bad because I am so engrossed in what I do every moment of every day, but it is not a good thing either. I know I’m not the only one when I say I walk around this Earth like I'm indestructible sometimes. I feel guilty those nights because there are people on this Earth who fight for their life day in and day out, and then there’s me, taking advantage of the beautiful function my body involuntarily does called breathing. I’m lucky in so many ways; I have a family that loves, supports, and takes care of me, I have some of the most amazing people in my life, and I have opportunities given to me all the time to be more than I already am. I’m nothing less than a blessed individual. So why do I walk around like nothing can touch me? Because I was never taught when I was younger to appreciate life in itself. Not many people my age were, just to make that clear. I don’t know about anyone else, but the town I grew up in has lost a lot of people my age because they were being reckless in a number of ways and careless and something went wrong. It’s the worst thing to hear that someone you grew up with has died from drinking and driving or jumping off a bridge for fun. People shouldn’t be dying because of carelessness. And if that carelessness comes from drinking too much, then reevaluate your life and really decide if drinking that much is worth it.
We should be appreciating the life we have been given. There is no perfect life. Every rich person has their own problems. Sure, they might have a lot of money, but having that much money might bring hard times with their family, or an illness. No life is perfect, so as human beings we need to stop dedicating our lives to finding that perfect, peaceful life.
We waste so much time as humans in the 21st century, too. We are always on our phones, in relationships that aren’t working, doing things we don’t love, and so much more. There’s a lot to say about what we put our time into, so why are we putting all our eggs in the basket of finding a better life instead of creating one for ourselves? We have time to make a great life, but instead we’d rather sit on our phones and watch the people that have created a great life, live that life. But why? Because as a whole in this generation, we look for instant gratification. We want it now or else we don’t want it at all, which is pretty stupid as I type this out and really think about that concept. We would rather watch people live a great life, than take the time to make one for ourselves because people are afraid to fail. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I get afraid of failing in front of the world. But, as I sit here being 21 years old, I’m learning I would rather fall flat on my face in front of the entire world, than keep my face the way it is with the people I have in my life.
I want to be more. I yearn for it most days. I have no clue on how to go about it, but that’s life people!! No one on this planet has it completely figured out!! Even Beyonce has her days, okay? She's rich, famous, and an entrepreneur, but I bet she still has days where she’s wondering if she’s headed in the right direction.
We can’t wait for a perfect life to fall into our laps. We have to make it. Whatever your dreams, you can achieve them. It’s hard going out in the real world and trying to accomplish enough to make a name for yourself. But people do it every day. If they can do it, so can you.
Stop taking the life you have been given for granted. Go out and make a name for yourself. Be proud of who you are and don’t let anyone try to tell you that you can't achieve your dreams because they are wrong. The only people that will tear you down are the people that tried and failed to get back up again. They don’t want to see someone else succeed because they never did, but be aware of what they are doing and continue on your journey. Always support others because wouldn’t you want awesome support from a stranger? Be happy with what you have and who you are and I bet you’ll end up living the life you’ve always dreamt of.
