AN: plz plz plz go see normal. It’s a blast. I promise. No spoilers here.
I smiled at Alex as I walked in the door to the sheriff office. They smiled back at me before going to answer the phone. I put a coffee cup on their desk as I passed by. Ulysses’ door was closed. Knocking as I balanced the remaining two cups and bag of pastries, I shouldered the door open. Ulysses looked up at me as I came in.
“hey sheriff.” I teased as I put the tray on his desk. “Seems like you’re hardly working.” Ulysses chuckled.
“More like working hard.” He corrected. I pulled his cup free from the tray and passed it over. “I thought we were meeting at home.” His eyes narrowed at me as I took a seat in front of his desk.
“well this town is boring.” I whined. Ulysses rolled his eyes. “There isn’t even a movie theater in this dump. I’m dying here les.” His smile softened.
“Two more weeks and we’ll be moving on.” Ulysses assured me. “In the meantime…” he nodded towards the couch in his office. “I could do with some company.” Gathering up the papers on his desk, he grabbed a clipboard and headed over. I grabbed my cup and the bag before joining him.
“No funny business mister. Alex is right outside.” I teased as I curled up under his arm. Ulysses made a noise.
“As if i would.” He shot back. “Last time they caught us they wouldn’t stop fucking teasing me for weeks.”
“that was just kissing les.” I laughed.
“I know!” He shook his head. “I’m not dealing with that again.” I rested my hand on his chest.
“hey. They only tease you because they know how hard the divorce was for you.” I whispered. “Alex does it because they care.”
“then why do you do it?” Ulysses asked, already turning back to his files.
“because I’m your partner.” I laughed, tilting my head to look at him. “You chose this. And now you gotta deal with it.” Ulysses playfully groaned as his head fell back against the couch.
“Fuck me.” He smiled down at me before he leaned over to press a kiss to my lips, mustache tickling as I cupped his cheek.
“aw!” Alex cried from the open door.
“Alex!” Ulysses cried, throwing a napkin at them as they left the room laughing. “I’m never living this down.” I quietly laughed, soothing him with another kiss.

I closed the door and leaned against it. Ulysses stepped out the kitchen, sheriffs uniform unbuttoned. He cocked his head as he looked at me.
“Hey.” He said. I ignored him and hurried over, bag left at the door. “Ok.” I wrapped my arms around his waist and pressed my cheek to his chest. Ulysses hugged me tightly as he rested his chin against the top of my head. “I got ya. I got ya.”
“Long ass day.” I mumbled as I breathed him in. “Made worse by my period.” Ulysses hummed as he rubbed my back. A kiss was pressed to my head as he went to pick me up. “Don’t you dare. I won’t have you throwing out your back.” Ulysses grumbled as his arms dropped to my waist.
“fine.” He muttered. “But I am carrying you over that threshold when we get married.” I pulled back to look at him. His eyes were serious.
“I guess I have no say in that matter.” I retorted as he nodded. “Meet you in bed?” Ulysses nodded.
“Let me just get something for us to eat and I’ll be right there.” He said. I went to move past him when he stopped me by cupping my chin. I looked at him with wide eyes as he drew me into a kiss. “Never got my kiss hello.” He whispered before letting me go. I smiled softly before another wave of cramps ripped through me. I shuffled to the bathroom to change my products out and take more painkillers before heading to the bedroom. I quickly changed into one of Ulysses’ shirts and some pants laying around. I stood for a second at the edge of the bed, arms wrapped around my abdomen as I waited for the pain to pass. Ulysses walked in and watched me as he set down the tray of food.
“I’m fine.” I waved him off as I finally climbed on the bed. “No worse than usual. Just hit out of fucking nowhere. Probably the stress of this project.” Ulysses nodded. “I’m serious Les. I’m just really stressed out this week.”
“having the next few days off must be a relief.” He said, handing me the tray before climbing into bed with me. I nodded. “Too bad I can’t stay here and spend it with you.”
“I mean you can always call in sick.” I shrugged. “I’ve done that before to spend time with you.”
“trying to guilt trip me?” Ulysses asked, mouth full of food. “That’s rude.”
“No.” I laughed. “I’m just saying it’s an option. One we’ve used before.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Goodness sheriff. Not like I’m breaking the law.” Ulysses smiled as we finished eating. The tray was moved to our dresser before he pulled me to him. He had discarded the uniform at some point so I didn’t have to worry about the badge or name tag getting ruined. Or worse digging into my face. “This is nice.” I murmured. Ulysses kissed my head. “Sometimes I forget how much you help me destress by simply being there.” Ulysses looked at me.
“You trying to butter me up?” He asked. I shook my head as I burrowed deeper into his chest.
“no. Just saying that you as a person…as my person…is relaxing. Like your presence. It helps quiet everything and make the weight go away.” I tried to explain.
“oh.” Ulysses said before he tilted my head towards him to kiss me. “Well for what it’s worth…I feel the same about you.” I smiled as I kissed him again. “Why don’t you get some rest? I’ll check in on Alex and see if they don’t think they’ll be able to handle tomorrow on their own.”
“taking a sick day Les?” I murmured as I started to drift off. Ulysses chuckled as he reached for his phone.
“shut up asshole.” He warned as I fell asleep on his chest.
"Yeah Noelle Holiday (in an Umineko Witch Outfit) is psychically torturing the spectral narrator while confiding she no longer feels like a person, while Dess talks about never being good enough for her mother, also she's off her meds + hearing voices. no I'm doing fine why do you ask."
