the goddamn troll king!
Been doing a thing where I try to make the Norscan more historical-accruate (while still keeping in their fantastical elements.) Its not the first piece I have done, but its the first that I felt very happy about
Studies on the Ravening Hordes: Understanding the Savage
Day 1: The college agreed to fund my expedition, and we set out from Marienburg today! I have been granted the services of Markus Hagen, a wizard of the bright college, and have managed to acquire a contract with Jacop Paulet’s Champion Hounds mercenary band. They seem to be good fellows, if a bit rough around the edges. I may have to ensure that they don’t try to hunt the norscans I intend to study.
Day 9: We have landed on the norscan coast. Rough seas forced our captain to anchor and unload us much further west than I expected, but it will do. The mercenaries were somewhat disappointed that we are not here to bring vengeance upon the raiders, but I trust captain Paulet to keep his men in line. We had very little trouble bringing our cargo off the ship, and the captain should return in three months with a full hold of cargo to resupply the men. We set up a main camp within a grove just a small march from the coast, and scouts have already been dispatched to identify any tribes of the savages in the area.
Day 12: Progress! The scouts identified a fairly large tribe not too far from our camp, and observed that the settlement was laid out fairly similarly to an imperial village. The greatest difference was the lack of any crop fields, though they do have livestock pens. It might be possible that the northerners never learned how to sow crops. Such a thing could possibly explain how they have never advanced as a society.
Day 16: We have undoubtedly been discovered by the savages! The scouts report that they have seen more guards around the largest houses and stationed near the livestock pens. I’m going to join the scouting team tomorrow to try and communicate with the tribals on the outskirts of the village. Hopefully I can convince them not to harm us.
Day 17: I managed to meet with one of the older members of the village. He was withered and frail, but I could still see the proud spirit in his eyes as we conversed in the norscan language. I explained my expedition's purpose of understanding the conditions in this land, and he promised to secure a meeting between me and the village chief. I need only wait for him to tell my scouts when and where the meeting will be. This could be a major breakthrough in preventing chaos!
Day 21: A message from the norscan! The eldar we talked to (his name is Oswald Loptsson, apparently) has arranged for a meeting at a cave between our camp and their village. He claims that his chief, Ufi the Serpent-eater, will be there to discuss the possibility of our expedition studying the daily life of the tribe. Apparently the tribe calls itself the ‘Glunbering’ people. Hopefully the meeting isn’t a trap.
Studies on the Ravening Hordes: Motivations of Chaos
It is well known in our time that champions of the dark gods march south from their savage frozen wastelands, bent on conquering the mortal world under the heel of an Everchosen. But in order to properly deny victory to these malignant beings, we must study the other reasons for their eternal war against civilization. What causes them to raid in times when there is no Everchosen? I make this proposition to the assembled colleges of magic in Altdorf today, that I be allowed to take an expeditionary force into the north to study the savage norscan tribes and learn of the reasons for their cruelty. In time, I hope to transform this simple hope of understanding into a force that may civilize the wretched northerners and lead them into blessed Sigmar's light, to join the empire in prosperity.
If the mighty collage of magic should provide basic funding for this expedition along with a wizard of the lore of fire, I plan to sail from Marienburg, where I will hire a mercenary company along with map-makers and a merchant to recover us after a year, across the Sea of Claws to make port directly across the water from Dietershafen. I will establish a base of operations not far from the coast, and begin observation of the norscan tribes in an attempt to understand what can be done to prevent the creation of new chaos champions.
Signed,
Ludolf Schmaltzkopf, witch hunter captain.

Converted from the Blood Bowl Norse team and a bunch of marauder and chaos warrior bits.
New Total Warhammer 3 faction is Sayl (Spelling forgotten) a chaos Wizard focusing on a betrayal mechanic. Revamp to existing Norsca too. Kind of excited, and since they already play fast and loose with the timeline; I'm honestly just waiting/hoping for Van Horstmann sometime soon. Gimmie!
