Just thinking about how Jay kept telling Sun to accept that Sun had feelings for him, and I'm realizing that he wasn't just asking Sun to accept romantic feelings. It was about what liking Jay specifically meant for who Sun is. Sun was a top, always in control, never letting anyone else be in charge. Having feelings for Jay meant accepting the fact that he felt submissive to someone. Being with Jay would involve having a D/s dynamic to some extent. Jay has made that clear in the way he's pursued Sun. So for Sun to accept that he has feelings for Jay, he also has to accept something about himself that he's always tried to hide from. This is something that Jay is able to see, and something he wants Sun to see as well. He kept asking Sun to tell him what he wanted, to ask Jay for it. To give it real, honest thought, instead of simply expecting Jay to tell him. This wasn't(just) an ego thing. Sun refusing to acknowledge to himself what kind of relationship he wanted with Jay was a huge obstacle. And everything Jay did was to try to force Sun to look at that side of himself. To see it, and accept it. Was it selfish? Sure, absolutely. But I also think there's deep care there as well. He wants to be able to look after Sun. To keep him safe, to let Sun feel and accept that safety and experience a full range of emotions. Emotions that he can't access if he's too busy hiding from both his trauma and a fundamental part of who he is. And yes, Jay also wants to possess and control Sun. To watch tears run down Sun's face while he fucks him painfully. He's a sadistic Dom, and he's drawn to a repressed, bratty, masochistic sub(maybe a switch, I don't think we'll find out for certain if he was a top because he genuinely wanted to be or because he felt like that was one of the ways he could stay in control in his very unstable life). Jay was willing to do whatever he felt was necessary to shatter Sun's false image of himself as someone who didn't want Jay to dominate him.
There's so much depth in this show and these characters. I feel like I keep unraveling new layers every time I think about it.
