the stakes of their current situation were too great (& eddie’s sense of cynicism was too ingrained in him) to truly have faith in any plan. actually, part of eddie figured that he was lied to when he was told there was a plan. this was all just a ruseーit was just that no one had the heart to tell him that he was fucked. they were delaying the inevitable.
