Notes upon finishing the last ep of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty
Well! So we've finished watching the last episode and there are so many FEELS! XD I enjoyed the series very much!
I won't be spoiling what happened all throughout the ep except the end, where they largely kept Yi Heon's circumstances leading to his time travelling to the present a secret (all the better for us fic writers to expound on by ourselves, hehehe!). I understand the original novel had its own take on how Yi Heon managed to make his way onto the present day and how he fared until reuniting wtih Ji-yeong, but this is just my take and will prove an interesting epilogue for my fic Enchantment! Here are some points that I will jot down for the Muse's future reference:
After the duel with his uncle, Yi Heon will return to the palace for a secret audience with the new King. The Dowager Queen, in terror for her son, will throw herself at his feet, begging for forgiveness. He, in turn, will kneel before his younger brother and announce that no, he's not come to claim the throne back. He's just going to tidy things up by arranging for the right set of courtiers who will be a service to the nation and not themselves to help the young King, etc.
In return, he will ask for what is rightfully his: a small amount of wealth to accompany him in his exile. He will remain dead to the nation and posterity will remember him as a tyrant. It is what he deserves after his past actions; but they will never find his body. It is assumed lost in all the chaotic fighting
He will stash said wealth in various places in Salgoji forest and elsewhere bec he'll need to have money and some means to get by, dammit, in the future that he will be travelling to. It's going to be a huge gamble, he won't know for sure if all that gold stashed away will still be there when he gets to the 21st century, but he will make other arrangements XD
He will also make his loyal retainer, Commander Shin Su Hyeok, promise to pass a message down Su Hyeok's descendants (the firstborn of every generation) to anticipate the coming of a royal stranger in their midst several centuries down the line. In return, he pledges that Su Hyeok and his descendants will become important courtiers and protectors of the royal family he's leaving behind
The letters on the tattered page that is the only remnant of his journal (that he keeps on his person at all times) sometimes glow, especially when he feels very deeply, but not enough to transport him to the future...until one day it suddenly does (after Ji-yeong, on her side, keeps reciting the dedication on Mangunrok and despairing because apparently nothing seems to be happening), BUT
He appears in 2023 South Korea instead of 2025 because time travel can be one hell of a confusing ride at times, but no matter. He is able to find Su Hyeok's descendants and start learning to get his bearings (half a millenium's worth of changes in the world as he knew it must be a HUGE culture shock, of course!)
He immediately starts to look for Ji-yeong but of course, no such luck as she is still in France at the time
He gets organized: dig up all that wealth (check); starts a crash course on what he's missed (500 years of world history in bullet points) and how to survive the modern world (check); learns modern-day stuff like economics, current global affairs, some of the foreign languages, the latest fashion (check); still very much a gourmet who may land a good job in the culinary arts bec of his sense of taste, and also, that's where he aims to start looking for his lost beloved (check)
And then one day, he reads the glowing review of Enfin restaurant, where Ji-yeong is head chef, and the rest, as they say, is history ^_~
Oh, and the rating for the fic will change because, you know, these two deserve their happy sexytimes XD XD XD
Feel free to drop me a line if you've got other ideas. The Muse and I would be happy to hear them ^_^
