AU of Goncharov where there's a cold open, and the scene opens on Goncharov walking through the streets of Naples past someone else's discotech just after dawn. He's headed for a cafe somewhere, newspaper under his arm, and he's just wistfully thinking about things we haven't learned anything about yet and watching people start to go about their business. The scene is full of callbacks to the rest of the story (which would normally be called foreshadowing, but they're just visual references to what's to come that you wouldn't notice unless you'd already seen the whole thing.
And then a man runs by, all willy-nilly, arms windmilling, coat flapping behind him. His hair is short except for the front, which sort of reaches out and up as if its desperately trying to find something before its owner does.
And this man catches Goncharov out of the corner of his eye as he runs past, and does a double-take a whirls. A woman catches up to him and asks what's going on, but he ignores her, totally focused on Goncharov, squinting his eyes and grimacing.
And then he says to Goncharov, "Oh, it's you. It is you... I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry. Fixed point in time, you know. I wish it will have gone any other way. I really do."
