The Penelopes & Laura Smet 🎶 Nothing Lasts
Nothing Lasts
I watch it happen like sunlight slipping through my fingers The curve of her smile the shine in her eyes the way her laughter filled the room all of it softening edges fraying like a photograph left in the rain
Nothing lasts Not the glow of youth not the warmth of hands once impossible to let go of not the way a moment can feel like it will stretch forever
I notice it in small ways a glance that lingers too long on something else a laugh that trembles before it falls silent a shadow creeping over the places light used to touch
I want to hold it to trap it but beauty is not a cage it moves like water through open hands and every attempt to stop it feels like betrayal
I stand at the edge of it watching remembering knowing that love like beauty is only allowed to stay for a little while
Nothing lasts not her, not this, not me only the memory of what once burned bright lingers after the fire has died
I was there for the fall of AOHell.
When Geocities faded.
When chat rooms were the thing.
The MySpace rush.
The rise and fall of flash.
Our modems screamed the song of digital freedom to my generation.
All things fade.
everything is temporary.
this will all end soon.
Time is running out.
Because nothing—not the beautiful and not the terrible—lasts.
