hi! I’ve got the specific problem that I’m drawing a guy whose most notable physical characteristics include how long and slender his fingers are, but I can’t figure out how to elongate them in perspective. I’m also struggling with his legs under the coat and his ears! thank you so much! <3

hi!! I really like this– your guy looks cool as heck. Characters with exaggerated traits are always super fun, and present a lot of unique compositional challenges that are cool to work with. i think your issue is, fittingly, with composition! Some simple tweaks to think about would be to move the arms so you can see a bit more of the elbow and how the flesh recedes back in space; having the arms extend straight down and out stiffens the pose a lot. I didn’t do this in my redline, but try enlarging the hands, too, to exaggerate foreshortening! That would draw a lot more attention to them.

At this point I’m starting to wonder if maybe 17S is... partially populated by people from an alternate timeline?  like???

...okay, all jokes aside, I think most of this has to do with the demographic skew of Tumblr vs. the Shard - proportion of people who deal with mental illness and/or are neurodivergent, queerness, ace spectrum representation... hell, I’d be willing to bet that the m/f gender ratios are significantly different between the two. 

It’s been really interesting to me that pretty much all the Tumblr posts I’ve seen about Shallan’s alternate personalities have included some sort of commentary on them being bad/unhealthy coping methods, but many people on 17S insist that Veil and Radiant are equal parts of Shallan’s personality and must be treated with respect.

Specific spoilers re: why they don’t like Adolin under the cut - end of book stuff -

Adolin won’t be ‘intimate’ with Veil.  The Sharders who see this as a bad sign read it as him refusing to recognize Veil as part of Shallan’s personality - I think they’re mostly working from a base concept of ‘Shallan’s personas are about expressing things she can’t’, which works really well if you want to support the idea that Shallan is really, deep down, more attracted to Kaladin.

I’m more inclined to read it as ‘Shallan’s personas allow her to externalize things she doesn’t want to deal with and work through’; see:  Radiant being specifically created because if Shallan tried to wield the Patternblade without disassociating she would either a) have to deal with the fact that she killed her mother, b) have a mental breakdown, or c) both.
