I am a registered nurse working in the intensive care unit of a somewhat rural/suburban area in California. Yes, we have COVID patients. Yes, I have taken care of COVID patients personally. A few things have been on my mind recently:

1. We don't have adequate PPE, despite my organization's claims that we do. I have been wearing the same N-95 mask for the last week (I guess it didn't get too bad supply-wise for my organization until recently). I've been asked to wear the same gown, hat, and goggles all day (for the last three weeks so far) and to try and preserve my N-95 for as long as possible. If you're a healthcare worker (HCW) and you see this post, message me or reblog and tell me about your PPE siituation.

2. On top of the PPE situation, I would like to know where JCAHO and CMS and OSHA and the state public health department are in all this? Enjoying quarantine life free and safe from the thing that is killing people and putting the lives of HCWs at risk every day? Fuck them and their crystal palaces. There's tape on the walls and worse and they're not doing shit.

3. I am angry about this situation and people not taking quarantine seriously. America has the highest reported amount of cases than any other country in the world. Don't be the idiot who thinks it's over, goes to the beach, and then is responsible later for killing your friends or loved ones.

We're currently doing our first clinical on January 5th, my birthday! 🎂 🎉 I have been waiting for my first clinical for almost three years now, I'm so excited to begin! I'm making a list of what to take in my bag 🌺 All of My Important Papers 🌺 Sticky Notes 📝 🌺 Small Notebook (Fits in scrub pocket) 📓 🌺 Planner 📖 🌺 Pens (3 Different Colors)✒ 🌺 Pencils ✏ 🌺 Highlighter 🌺 Deodorant 🌺 Perfume 🌺 Hair ties, Cloth Headband, and Bobby Pins 🌺 Full Lunch (We get one 15 minute break) 🍲 🌺 Healthy Snacks (Clinical is 6 hours so I have 3 snacks) 🍎 🌺 Bottle of Water 💦 🌺 Extra Scrubs 👚 🌺 Baby Wipes 🌺 Pads & Tampons 🌺 Hand Lotion and Sanitizer 🌺 Ibuprofen & Immodium💊 🌺 Wallet With 💵 🌺 Earbuds 🌺 ID Tag 💳 🌺 Phone 📱 🌺 Chapstick 💄 🌺 Scissors & Tape ✂ I also carry items meant for the residents, they absolutely love it when you doll them up! 🌺 Nail Polish 💅 🌺 Hair Ties & Bobby Pins 💇 Now, onto what I actually carry in my pockets because there is no way I'd carry all this on me 🌺 Pens, Pencils, Highlighter, and Notebook ✒✏📓 🌺 ID Tag 💳 🌺 Nail Polish 💅 🌺 Hair Ties and Bobby Pins 🌺 Chapstick 💄 🌺 Ibuprofen (I leave the Immodium in my bag because I rarely need it) 💊

I got to clinical today to find my favorite resident on comfort care. In class, you're told to form bonds with these people... But when you walk in after a weekend, and see how much has changed, it's horribly discouraging. My other favorite yelled at me today. She was very combative and irritable - it obviously wasn't because of me, but there wasn't anything I couldn't do. I don't know what the purpose of this was. I guess I just need some encouragement.

Got my Holiday rotation. Guess who is off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve!? I only work New Year's Eve Day 6am-2pm and New Year's Day 2pm-10pm. Yay!!! I love having seniority.
