sulkyvampire replied to your post: Some thoughts under the cut because I need to...
my screenshots have orgus offering to bring back those memories and the option my JK chose, which did not get DS points, was to accept the memories’ return by saying he wasn’t afraid of facing them. and I agree, the it seems dismissive to say “let it go” re: the trauma, but unfortunately the game’s writing hasn’t / isn’t going to go into detail on how the JK can in a realistic process. its intent was to read into orgus saying to process it and eventually get to a point to move on from it.
@sulkyvampire I will reply here because character limit is annoying>:[
I will pay attention next time I do that story because it has been years and my brain is slowly getting rid of BW writing of any game.
And yes, sadly. I know the game will never properly address anything in depth because, BW. I guess in the end it depends on how each JK would take it because no one reacts the same way to the same/similar situations. I can’t say what BWs intent with that bit of story was beyond “Here have something we guess” Because it is BW and I doubt they thought deep on it if at all. Because just saying “Process this and move on eventually” without offering tools or help, is not really helpful. It is like telling a person with Anxiety to be brave because they’ll get better! I will say, I see an inkling of a good idea with the “Help others” part of the mission. Though I would’ve made it more “Form meaningful connections that will actually make a support net for you” sort of thing. Because yes, helping is all well and good, but simply helping others won’t heal you from your pain. This is something basic we’re taught in psychology (in my country and college at least), you will do more harm trying to do good if you’re dealing with your pain at the same time.
In general, it bothers me because it’s dismissiveness and the dangers of such dismissiveness being so prevalent in media in general. But, like I said, I know I’m asking too much of a Video game. And especially, a BW video game. I might be looking too hard into it, I tend to do that, especially with this sort of thing.
