We talked about my trailblazing mom, who paved the way, leaving her family, a successful career and everything else behind, so that we may realize our own American Dream. 💕🙏💕 • "When you're young, you don't like to think about your parents as individual people, right? You just think, "oh, yeah, whatever. She's my mom." Thinking back about what she's had to go through for us to be where we are at this point is tremendous: she had to leave her family behind to give them a better life. And she succeeded because we're here now. I can't see myself, at this stage, without her. My mom is a role model for me, both her and my grandmother. They're the two strongest women I've known all my life. I always try to emulate them. I am not who I am without those two, and my mom especially, being such a trailblazer. She has this generosity of spirit that I don't know of anyone else. Lives Warehoused. I’m fascinated by people loading and unloading parts of their lives at the storage unit. Storage has become a “thing” in NYC cuz people’s apartments are just way too small. I watch in fascination as they pack away beach chairs and umbrellas in the fall and swap them for winter coats. Or in the spring, as they bring out the tiny pink bike and wiffle ball set. Sometimes a Uhaul pulls up and unloads beds, microwaves and entire rooms of furniture, their stressed out owners trying to pack their entire life away into a 10x10 space. After the Yasiin Bey exhibition @brooklynmuseum we went to see the amazing exhibition by photographer and street artist @JR. Featured is this nearly life size mural where he shot over a thousand New Yorkers and interviewed all of them about living in NY. @Flutana and I listened to a few. Out of over 1,000 people in this portrait, Nicole selected two random people...the second one happened to be my boy @alanmildor!!!! Someone she's never met and never seen before!! So crazy!! What's funny is just two weeks ago we were supposed to meet Alan at the @leequinones exhibition at @james_fuentes_llc gallery but he couldn't make it. Funny how life is....Definitely recommend this exhibition...JR's work is really fascinating.
