Short Film - When The Music Stops
When a hardened crime lord resists traditional tactics, an unconventional interrogator is brought in to play.
In the week before Christmas it was extra exciting to shoot this short film with a wonderful bunch of people at a challenging yet awesome location - the old freezing works at Burnside in Dunedin!
When The Music Stops is inspired from the internet meme where Kermit the Frog leans back against a brick wall captioned, 'I'm so glad I was taught to play the recorder at school. It has come in really handy in adult life. Lost count of the times it has resolved a difficult situation with a quick blast of Three Blind Mice.'
Phil Vaughan as the Super Villain
By stripping back the usual interrogation tropes we found an absurd tension between menace and play. Perhaps When The Music Stops is about how persistence can defeat the most guarded? Or maybe in certain circumstances playing the recorder can resolve difficult situations in life?
Working with Petra & Phil in such a surreal, contained scenario was both a challenging and a beautiful experience.
