A small fan animation made in honor of Black butler’s 15th anniversary ✨! Initially started as a simple walk cycle practice but I like how it turned out lol.

Black Butler ch. 196: Theo, Nick and Ginny

After reading the synopsis of the most recent chapter, I’m fairly convinced that the F.O.L. Orphanage secret goal is to turn a child from Pomeranian Class into a substitute body for O!Ciel’s soul in order to save him from the contract. Surrounding potential hosts with elements and activities as much similar as possible to what our earl is used to is, I assume, to minimize the chance of internal conflict if the original host’s soul (or its remains or just muscle memory) stays in the body. The drama around pastries from the previous chapter supports this: different dish but the same ingredient, lemon.

And then there is Theo, the most prominent boy from Pomeranian Class. He would appear at this moment to be a candidate, but his attitude is more reminiscent of R!Ciel than O!Ciel. Same calm (and sus) expression and demeanor, strong sense of duty as an oldest brother and how whenever he appears he steals all the attention by being perfect.

Of all the children we have met so far, Nick is much closer to O!Ciel or at least how he was in the past or how he could be if it wasn’t for everything that happened to him. Nick is sweet, cheerful and doesn’t like being kept inside. The manga even supports this as when Nick was shown looking outside the window the same way O!C was in his flashbacks.

Kinda unrelated, but another thing that I’ve noticed but haven’t seen others pointing that out yet, is how Ginny from the Corgi Class looks similar to Lizzie. She has the same straight pigtails as Lizzie used to have during the Campania incident, although it was this way because they got wet. My guess is that Ginny just has naturally straight hair. She and Lizzie even had similar experiences. They didn’t want to practice something anymore out of fear (Lizzie’s was of becoming too strong and scaring her fiance while Ginny got traumatized by a horse accident), but were told that despite anything they must continue and eventually both girls did. Also Ginny being in the Corgi Class that specializes in physical activities is reminiscent of Lizzie’s strength and athleticism.

Halloween or Christmas?

Our!Ciel: When he was little he was more of a Christmas person, but due to certain traumatic experiences, he doesn’t enjoy it as much as he used to, even with all the new gifts and toys he gets to come up with for the company, so now he takes comfort in the cool embrace of falling leaves and candy. 

Sebastian: Likes them both. They’re amusing to him for different reasons; one to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the other to scare away bad things, such as himself; a clearly futile yet entertaining holiday. If he had to choose he would say halloween bc its less work and preparations for him to take care of; when it’s christmas time, things need to be perfect, the decorations, the food, the company, but due to the nature of halloween, he doesn’t have to pay as much attention to detail.

Lizzy: Christmas!! Everything about it is great, the decorations bring a happy feeling into air to the air and it brings people together. She gets to spend a lot of time with her family, giving gifts that will suit them and make them happy. Its a time to spread joy and hope, is there really anything better than that?

Real!Ciel: Christmas as well. Similar reasoning to Lizzy’s, but he focuses much more on all the surprises he gets and gives, I guess he has a bit of a more selfish sort of way of seeing it, because its a time to celebrate both his and his brother’s birthday, he’s grown up surrounded by gifts, cakes, delicious food and the great company of his family, he’s used to having a lot of fun and attention set on him, but he still thinks its nice to see the way other people enjoy the peace of the time of year.

Undertaker: Hard decision to make; both occasions are filled with opportunities for lots of pranks and laughs, it’s really easy for him to find joy in both celebrations. When Christmas is nearing, he’ll wear the ugliest christmas sweater he can find and prepare the perfect gag gift. Loves seeing the person’s reaction when they open their gift excitedly only to find a wrapped banana, the way their face falls is priceless. But Halloween is the best. A sure win in his book. Lots of sweets and even more pranks. Trick or Treat? You will only tricks here, kid (don’t worry, he still gives out candy to those who actually approach him). Carved turnips everywhere and also the time where he can go all out on his creepiness.

Grell: Halloween, duh. you think she’s going to pass up an opportunity to dress up??? NO! Sexy nurse, sexy cat, sexy everything. Bodysuits, and also matching costumes! A good way to show people that you’re in a relationship with the other person (or are just really good friends with them). She loves everything about them, and thinks it’s a great bonding exercise, so she’ll do her best to try and convince will to match with her, but if he doesn’t agree to it, she’ll ask Ronald. He always has great ideas and the two of them are practically unstoppable.

Will: Christmas, obviously. He gets lots of days off and most years you see death rates drop a lot even if he’s not off, people stay at home in shelter from the cold with loved ones. He can take his time to bust out the best of his cooking skills and lots of peace to cuddle up to a book with some hot cocoa in hand. Relaxing. Unlike Halloween, everything happens so fast it stresses him out, and Grell asking him to dress up with her is of no help.

Ron: He likes both but prefers Halloween. Christmas for the same reasoning as William; he gets to relax and get some days off, and there are lots of work parties, but it’s much easier to have a great time during Halloween. The parties are much bigger, much wilder and he can really let loose, knowing that after this he gets to rest and start over. He has a great time with Grell, even if he sometimes ends up being the (reluctant) designated driver and also pulling her away from the hot guy that’s feeling her up when she’s wayyy to drunk to actually consent. A huge bonus is how pretty girls look in their costumes.
