Today, we conclude the O Antiphons in which we observed the totality of God's love for us, for his Son is our King and Lawgiver, the expected one of the nations. He is our Savior Emmanuel, who came to save us, the Lord our God. This began with Zachariah and Elizabeth, who knew that their child had divine connections, for the Angel Gabriel indicated that this child was to receive the name of John, which means, “Yahweh is Gracious.” This is true of John, for he is a gracious gift to us, for he paved the way to our Savior, Emmanuel, which means, “[that] God is with us.” For the incarnation is the ultimate expression of God’s willingness to “be with us,” it is understandable that this text, in its interpretation, refers to the birth of Christ, our King and Giver of Law, who came to save us; and for this, let us rejoice.[1]
