Being a Linux user who doesn't know shit from fuck about computers is wild. I'll see a new update notification for a "Gnome Keyring" which is for "Gnome features (Daemons and tools)" and I just go alrighty give the gnome his demons and tools I guess you're in charge here Linux do what you gotta do to communicate with my CPU so I can keep playing Hellsinker.

Getting a lot of notes on this post from people who aren't Linux users yet but are cautiously interested so I want to let you all know that it's so much easier than everyone makes it sound. Switching OS-es isn't too hard and using your new one is just as easy if not far easier than using your old one. There's some muscle memory to re-learn and you'll want to have a discipline for troubleshooting rather than just giving up when things get tough, but there's entire communities of people who are passionate about helping you out. My main suggestion to everyone longing for Linux but worried about committing too early is to start by listing all the programs you use on your computer that you can't live without and checking to see how many you can get working on Linux or find acceptable alternatives for. There's a Free and Open Source version of basically every piece of software you could want and most video games work great on Linux these days. You aren't actually giving up all that much. Furthermore, you can always mount an OS you're interested in onto a USB stick then try it out without actually switching over. You'll find there's plenty of distros specifically designed to be comfortable to new users from other OSes.

You don't have to be afraid. It'll be fun. We're all here to help you.

So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,

And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.

And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?

But nope, that's not the case:

the Entire Point of the batman mythos to me is making something meaningful out of a random and pretty senseless act of violence, and then helping a bunch of other people do that too. every time a writer makes joe chill a time traveler or dick grayson have a magical tooth or gives jason todd the blood of the ancients and everything is just a massive conspiracy or whatever the fuck they're just completely missing the point, which is that painful things happen, for reasons we may never understand, and we have to contend with them.

that's the staying power of the fantasy! it's not actually being a billionaire who can beat up a million ninjas with his bare hands and has a really cool car. if you think that's the fantasy you got caught up in the trappings. it's that you could take the worst moment of your life and make meaning out of the howling empty void of grief by using it to help people!
