Kioto Dancing Girl by Kusakabe Kimbei 1880s por Blue Ruin 1 Por Flickr: Photograph number “55” in the catalogue of over 2,000 images by the Kusakabe Kimbei Studio of Yokohama, entitled “Kioto Dancing Girl”. This hand-coloured albumen photograph shows maiko (apprentice geisha) O-Hisa of Kyoto dressed in an elaborate dove motif kimono.
Two Kyoto Maiko 1880s
Although this hand-coloured postcard is dated 1914, the image is much earlier, dating to the 1880s. Possibly image 225 “Kioto Girl” from the Kusakabe Kimbei Studio, as 224 “Kioto dancing girl” and 226 “Flower Ceremony” feature the same maiko (apprentice geisha). Maiko (apprentice geisha) O-Hisa on the left.
