Honestly at this point I'd really like to know the fucking salary at the O.I.A.R.

Because while in Archives, it is stated at some point that there was a pay upgrade to work in the Archives, which incitated people to take the position to later be stuck unable to quit, on the Protocol side we have the O.I.A.R, which is civil service.

It doesn't pay well. Even though the Institute in TMA is technically a non-profit organisation, I'm still pretty sure any position there pays better than a civil service job. So why did Alice stay ?

She isn't stupid, and maybe has a degree -- and even if she didn't, there are still jobs that doesn't need a degree out there. And she knows that working there is dangerous, which is why she turns a blind eye and pretend not to care.

But here's the thing : many of her lines suggest that at some point she did care. She probably was exactly like Jon, looking for answers and trying to know what was behind those cases, why were there recurring names, places, everything !

But she stopped, she decided to shut it down and turn a blind eye. My question is : why ? Why not quit ? She knows it's dangerous, she knows there are things that could get her killed, so why stay when the safest option is to quit and leave it behind ? And why tell Sam to come work there ? I mean, I get that he needed help, but if I knew my job was dangerous and that my friend was overly curious, I wouldn't recommend them to come here.

So I'm really asking how my the government pays her to stay.

Sometimes I feel like I'm working at the O.I.A.R. with how I catalogue things for writing, going through abnormalities (PM) and statements (TMA) like "well we can see that this is a transformative focused abnormality, however it is not 'transformative (self)' or '(journey'), rather it falls under 'transformative (environment)'" and all the meanwhile I'm talking about a fucking Clam:

Can fear be a good thing? I think it can. It warn, and advises. Sure in some of us it screams, but we must always keep in mind why. Fear tries to protect us, keeps us alert and on our toes. It's what's kept so many species alive. A healthy amount of fear and caution.

Theory TIME!!!

Its 3:30 and i just listened to episode 44 and i have a theory!!!

The reason for why The Fears work diffrent in the Protocol verse is because of the O.I.A.R. duh...

That is obvious, but i think i know why it works diffrent and how the O.I.A.R. does it.

The first thing i noticed when i started listening to protocol, was that it was almoust impossible to assign specific fear to specific cases (as shown in ep 44). In all of the cases it felt like more fears were working together (more the they did in Archives), as almost they were'nt even separat fear, and that is what i beleave is the difference in the protocol verse.

But why tho ?

The Fears use to be just one big blob of fear (i will be calling it a "Fear Egg") as we know from ep 200 of Archives, we also know that this Fear Egg later "cracked" and The 14 were born. I think that in the Protocol verse The Fear Egg never "cracked", or at least not as much and The Fears remained more or less homogeneous.

But why tho ? 2

The reason The Fear Egg did'nt "crack" is becouse of the O.I.A.R. and its predecessors. as said by Lena "Dread is organised into four key elements: Death, Pain, Helplessness and Wrongness. It is essential that these four elements remain balanced, that is the purpose of the O.I.A.R." and through keeping this balance they keep the classic 14 (or even single one of them) from being born and the aftermath (wich is the "bad things" Lena keeps mentioning). There simply is'nt enough specific fear for them to be born, obviously people are still afraid of being watched or hunted, but it's too vague and too weak, becouse of the balance.

You sure this could work ?

Im not just sure!!! This has precedent for being able to happen and we know this, becouse of The Bastard Fear, The Extinction, who was too weak and too vague to birth itself.

You know what I'm wondering, how do the externals get hired? Like does Lena hear about them from a case and go and hire them? Is there a department whose whole job is to hire monsters? How do people who become avatars find out about the O.I.A.R? There used to be a response team right, was it just someone showing up at their door and being like "work for us or we'll fucking kill you." Do the horrors get paid for their service? Are they being blackmailed? Is there an HR department and can the externals file a complaint if they feel overworked? Now I'm just imagining Mr. Bonzo trying to file a complaint. This got away from me but I want to know how the externals came to work for the O.I.A.R.
