Prompt – Bats Characters – Token/Kyle Word Count – 477

Notes – ARE YOU ALL READY FOR A BARRAGE OF TOKEN STORIES

This takes place during my Basketball Boys AU

Kyle flicks the rubber bat. It’s held up by a single string. There are at least fifty of them strung up in the break room of the rec center. “These are…kind of pathetic.” “Yeah.” Token tugs off his sneakers. The socks follow suit, rolled up in a ball and shoved into his backpack. “They are. The showers are worse.” “Who puts decorations up in the shower?” “Well, uh, they can’t put any in the actual rooms. I guess that was, uh, their way of still, you know, decorating.” Kyle flicks the rubber bat again. “Right.” It’s cheap, probably picked up at the corner store. The red paint is peeling off of its eyes. “They could have just…not. That might have been better.” “Probably? I mean, I don’t know. It’s not…awful.” Token tugs on a clean pair of socks, longer ones this time. “Are you going to get changed?” His cheeks feel hot. Kyle flicks the bat again, because he’s kind of trying to put off getting changed. “Yeah, I’m going too. I just – who the fuck wants to get changed with these little fuckers watching you?” “There’s a shower room,” offers Token. He came out here in his shorts and tank top, which is probably the best option for this sort of thing. Kyle’s going to need to do that next time they come out. He doesn’t really want to go into the showers here. “Yeah. I’m probably going to hit that up. I’ll meet you out there, okay?” He flicks the bat again. The string snaps, sending the little gummy plastic creature plummeting to the ground. “Oh. Fuck. Didn’t mean to do that.” There’s a moment of silence. Then Token starts snickering, this soft sound smothered by a palm. It might be the first time that Kyle’s actually heard him laugh. It’s a nice sound. Kyle starts laughing, too. “See? Damn bat is trying to kill me. Told you I shouldn’t change out here.” “I don’t think it was trying to kill you.” “It attacked me!” “I think you killed it,” says Token, standing up. He grabs the basketball from where it had been wedged under the bench. “I’m pretty sure that it’s, uh, dead now. Good job?” “Oh, fuck off.” Kyle grabs the bat and tosses it at Token. “It deserved to be put out of its misery.” Token doesn’t laugh again, but he does smile. He swats the little bat away. “Go get changed. I want to see if we can get a few games in before you, uh, kill all of the other bats.”

Hate all sounds unless they’re music, certain peoples voices, the sound of food being fried in a frying pan, or my cats cute lil sounds she makes sometimes

I tolerate a lot and people don’t see that because I keep the rage inside

92. I can relive any point in my life for half an hour

Bro when I was like 5 my parents brought me to the coast & it’s the only time I would have seen the ocean in my country. Like I’ve seen the ocean while in other peoples country, but like, it’s not the same. This is home. I want to go back and see it.
