Rewatched the first season of II with some friends today and had a good time! That season is absolutely rough, but it has its moments and is entertaining enough to riff on with a group of friends. Pluuuus, it gets really good afterwards!
While watching, I decided to entertain myself by making rough sketches for a couple of II contestants in Object Houses. Left is Paper, right is Baseball— More about them in the au is under the cut!
Paper is a member of the Supply House— The House composed of papers, books, and cardboards. As such, he’s a collection of papers stacked and folded on each other to create a bird-like creature(Namely a shoebill, thanks to their broad beaks matching paper’s rectangular body shape)! His eyebrows are drawn on and appear/disappear at will, while he no longer has a visible mouth.
Baseball, on the other hand, is a member of the Synthetics House, his outer layer being composed of a tough white leather stitched together with thick red string. His eyebrows and mouth are also stitched-on details! Similarly, Baseball’s legs are stitched to the bottom of his ball, the area above the knee composed of the same materials as his body while below the knee is a soft brown fabric boot with a ring of fur around the top.
The both of them act functionally the same as they do in the show.
I’ll be working on more of this type of thing for Object Houses very soon, so say tuned! Curious about the au? Want to ask about a character or request they be drawn? Don’t be afraid to head to my askbox and question away!
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading, and have a good rest of your night!
Today I am DONUTPOSTING. Welcome to Donut Sundays*
*not actually on Sundays because I am lazy
I’d like to thank cloudyayers for asking me about that potential donut analysis post . You have inspired me to start bfb and become ten times more annoying . Additional thank you to my friends for putting up with my ridiculous love for this fictional pastry. DONUT FANS RISE UP!!!
So I went to the bfdia 23 screening Monday, despite not having seen the entire season…
Needless(don’t call me Needy!) to say I had so much fun I NEEDED to cover a page in drawings. Don’t mind the ominous black blotches, that was spoiler censorship for my friends! Whole, uncensored page below:
(Artist’s PS: I took so long to write up this post that I only recently realized the images looked like doodoo and went to take new ones, but as you can see poor jetpack guy and bottle got smudged by a drawing on the page parallel to them. Rest in peace…)
Okay GENUINELY though- WOW. I have been having a lot of fun(arguably way too much fun?) designing things for Houses as of late, especially the bfdi cast. I don’t know what tipped this over in me, but I hope it keeps going!! I’ll have some tidbits about each design(and extra bits of art!) here under the cut.
Besides that, I hope you like the sneaks of other fandoms(I’m practicing my club penguins for an art trade with oomf)… if I have more that’s exclusively that stuff, you’ll see it posted on my main blog! Woohoo!!
SO, about the object houses designed here…
Golf Ball: Personality wise, equivalent to her canon counterpart. Bossy to a fault, and constantly needs to be checked on her arrogance in order to actually work with a team. Her legs and the giant doohickey(as I lovingly call it) on her back are custom built by herself, and are fashioned after golf balls and golf tees. Perhaps instead of the tubes, I make them look like golf clubs? Hmm, maybe… She and Puffball are close. #Golfpuff realness.
Puffball: Puffball is one of the Miscellaneous Objects in Houses, her makeup being more akin to that of a wild animal than any known object. That said, she’s “wild” by Goikian standards— Which is obscenely wild. She has several sharp teeth, some of which stick out of her closed mouth. Her internal fluids are mostly compromised of noxious rainbows that can stink up and knock out an entire room(less toxic versions of these rainbows constantly exit her body as a way of expelling waste), the vibration of her vocal chords causes her fur to rapidly change the way it refracts light(though she’s always quite glittery), AND she naturally has some killer eyeshadow. Twenty four seven. Never changes. Being as unusual as she is, Puffball has a hard time fitting in, trying to stand out as much as possible in response. This unwillingness to conform makes her super unique, but makes her quite difficult to work with… Below are some concept doodles for her!
Tennis Ball: Briefly discussed in the last post, Tennis Ball is one to one with his canon counterpart in the same way Golf Ball is. The two are close friends and engineering buddies that exchange designs, blueprints, and experiments often. That said, Tennis Ball’s designs get a lot more technical— He doesn’t have the do-all doohickey that Golf Ball has. Instead, he has two decently sized satchels tied to both legs, and said legs have a transforming quality that allows TB to access the bevy of tools and trinkets that he places inside. These operate as hammerspace(a cartoonishly infinite void), thus explaining how he’s able to whip out marvelous technology like his high-powered blast chiller. TB’s shoes are also custom made, though they’re simply two planks of wood tied to his mechanical feet with a piece of cloth. Below is an extra doodle of him!
Bottle: Borrowing a little from the brilliant designs of Clarissa’s Bakery(and somewhat inspired by PPT2’s Bottle), Bottle has a LARGE tissue jammed into the top of her head that functions as a replacement for hair. It’s not very snug and is constantly taken out and/or messed with by other characters(including Bottle herself). As a Glass Object, her limbs are fashioned out of glass and are completely transparent— The ends of her hands and her feet(though not pictured very well here) are broken, chipped at, and sharp— Both to give the impression of long, decorative nails and excruciatingly pointy high-heels, fully leaning this Bottle into gyaru aesthetics. She’ll eternally be her ditzy glass-half-full self, however!
Yin-Yang: Our only contestants from II in this post, Yin and Yang are two designs that I poured the most “do what you want forever” energy into. They ARE inspired by animals associated with both sides of the symbol(Yin is a white tiger while Yang is a dragon), and belong with Puffball in the Miscellaneous house. They are the concepts of Yin and Yang incarnate, harmony and disharmony, though them as characters are far more nuanced than being black and white. I can’t elaborate too much, as I don’t want any II spoilers in this post AND YinYang will be receiving slight rewrites in accordance with my plans to adjust III in Houses canon. Stay tuned for that!
Flower: The winner of BFB is finally here, on both pages! I honestly have a lot of fun drawing Flower, so expect to see a good deal of her… though I don’t know whether she looks better with a more oval or circular face. I also haven’t seen Flower’s screentime from late pre-split to all of post-split, sooo I can’t comment much on how she’ll act in Houses AU. She IS a member of the Natural-Born House, though, so her arms are leaves(their shape meant to invoke puffy sleeves) and she has four legs(meant to represent roots). Unlike Tree, Flower has little to no magical properties, so she requires a lot of water and nutrients in order to regrow any part of her body.
Donut(Gijinka): Thiiiis isn’t a Houses AU drawing, so I’ll keep this brief. Here’s my human Donut design! His name is Don. He’s balding. He doesn’t usually dress that cold. Bada bing bada boom let’s move on
8Ball: God I love 8Ball. He’s not a very important or compelling character, just a funny shit starter against Golf Ball in early pre-split bfb, but he is SO funny. I had to give him a Houses design just to honor the millions of gifs that portray his goofy ass bfb render dominating scenes he should not be a part of. There’s nothing special about Houses 8Ball— He’s a plastic alloy pool ball that isn’t interested in those “prosthetics” that every other -ball talks about. The pupils in his eyes are in the shape of 8s, and change shape whenever he’s shaken a bunch. 8Ball cannot control the shape his pupils take, nor are those shapes particularly helpful for any situation.
Spongy: I LOVE SPONGY. Rewatching BFDIA 23 before the BFDIE premiere was a wonderful time, mainly because I got to recall how magnificently his screentime was used. Spongy is at his best when he’s more than a fat joke(or his large size is seen and used as a plus), and Shattered perfectly understands how to work with him in a comedy-centric season like BFDIA. When it comes to Houses AU, Spongy’s characterization is largely the same, with an added mystery about how he even works. Even I don’t really know what House he belongs to?? He’s either Plastic or Natural and Made from Nature. I’ll look into what generic cleaning sponges are made of later… All that asides, Spongy is simply a giant Slab of Sponge. He has no visible eyes and his body is covered in hollow holes. He’s also highly absorbent, able to contain almost all types of fluid and expel it on command. As he says in Shattered, he’s a valuable asset to have on your team!
Grassy: Grassy… ooohhh Grassy… This poor kid has been through a lot. He’s a member of the Nature House, and his body consists of several blades of rootless grass all tied up in a core. He gained consciousness a few years ago, and tends to imprint on other objects around him, whether they’re qualified to take care of children or not. I honestly doodled him on top of Basketball because of their connection, and I think he looks pretty cute! I’ll definitely have to experiment with him more, as he’s insanely relevant.. to the… y’know, story.. sorry, I think I got something in my ey— 😭😭😭
Basketball: Basketball, the third and final of the engineering -balls of BFDI, is one of the first designs I made for Houses. I still think she deserves a few tweaks from the one she has here, such as minimizing the amount of pink in the legs. Overall, Basketball is independent of her fellow inventors GB and TB, prioritizing her creations in her Above-Ground Factory above all else(unless Grassy is in the picture, of course). Basketball had moved from Object Canada when she caught word of the BFDI competition, leaving her brother Basketball to join Paper Puppets Take 2. She specializes in androids and robots, wearing a lot of pink flowers and trinkets to showcase her relationship with Robot Flower. Her most unique invention, a custom-designed prehensile tail that’s stuck into her body through the back, lets her plug into various computers and other robotic systems. This allows her tail to store several gigabytes of information from various processing units, and is instrumental during her experiment on Robot Flower’s memory. One last notable feature is that, like Tennis Ball, Basketball has satchels attached to her sides, though they are far larger and much heavier than Tennis Ball’s on account of not being hammerspace. When he’s with her, Grassy enjoys hiding in these satchels— He’s the only object that gets away with putting himself and his things inside Basketball’s bags.
Bubble: Bubble is from the Nature House and composed of water like Teardrop, though she’s specifically formed by water that bubbles up as a reaction to soap. For that reason she is insanely easy to kill, but her slippery properties can make her become ridiculously agile and hard to hit. She’s identical to the way she is in canon— Always kind and well-meaning, even if her inability to think on her feet causes situations where others despise or doubt her.
Leafy(and her variants): Leafy is a whole bag of.. well, leaves. From the nature house, she’s a being made from a single leaf, her limbs and wings being naturally grown extensions of that single leaf. Said wings are in the shape of a beetle’s elytra— They are not consistent at flying well, but can take her up into the air. She tries her best to remain positive, but isn’t doing so hot on account of everyone’s undying hatred for her after the incident concerning Dream Island. Metal Leafy is the same as Leafy, though notably hardened from her reliance on Yoyleberries as food to survive, while Evil Leafy is a manifestation of Leafy’s negative emotions from being ostracized for so long. Evil Leafy cannot speak and can barely reason, tearing any objects she gets her hands on apart.
Robot Flower: Robot Flower is.. well, a robotic version of the already existing Flower. Except… She isn’t? It’s weird. Constructed by a mysterious inventor nobody in the cast knows, Robot Flower’s build is a metal replica of Flower’s, with an intelligent design that uses solar panels to give her system power. She operates a shop in the North Goiky Hotel, facilitating the movement of non-conscious objects across Goiky for a surprisingly small fee. Though she has immense apprehension about being built in the image of another, far better competitor, she barely lets it show, only confiding in her good “friend” Basketball.
And… That should be everyone pictured! Golly, that’s a lot— But there’s absolutely more where that came from. I think my next post— If it’s not about random art— Should be either concern the Houses themselves or the Algebraliens! I’m leaning towards the Houses— They’re important to understanding the entire au, after all… Ah well, we’ll see!
Any questions, comments, and concerns should be directed to the post replies, my DMs and/or my askbox— I’ll get to them in due time! For now, thank you oh so much for reading, and I’ll hopefully see you in the next one!!
Hello, potential readers! I’ve decided I want to share more about the OSC themed stuff I’m cooking, and what better way than an introductory post? This textpost will cover two key things I hope to share more writing and art of in the future!
Small edit: I APPARENTLY MADE THIS POST MATURE AT FIRST??? HUH?? Object shows are too dark…/j
Cheese’s Objectverse/Object Houses AU
The gist: the shows BFDI, II, PPT2, EE, and OI exist in a combined universe in several cities and locales spread across the continent of Goiky. Every competition is canonical in these shows, and they all occur along a(currently undetermined) timeline.
What separates this from a typical crossover au is the speculative biology angle I want to take! Every object will belong to a House, each representing a different kind of material an object can be made up of. These include the Houses of Glass, Ceramics, Metals, Plastics, Machines, Foodstuffs, Nature, Supplies, and Synthetics. Certain houses are further split up into sub-houses, and there’s a House of the Miscellaneous to categorize anyone who may not fit in. Every house will get a post to describe the features of their members, and all of my headcanon designs will be based on these features.
Here’s a snippet from the House of Glass: OJ(II)!
“🍊| Orange Juice
He/Him | Homosexual
Inanimate Insanity Season One
Glass Cup w/ Orange Juice | First Winner and Hotel Manager
The first winner of Inanimate Insanity, OJ is a hell of a personality that’s rather full of himself. With two opaque arms and four transparent legs, this Glass House member is fast on his feet to find and resolve any issues in his hotel.”
(Note: Design not final. Expect art with character bios to be lined in pen and colored with pencils or marker.)
The tags for this au will be as follows:
#objecthousesau - General tag for everything to do with the au!
#objecthouses[character name][series of origin] - Specific character tag for the characters featured in a post. Check the tags of this post for II OJ’s!
#objecthousesart - To tag an au post with art!
The character’s normal tags and my usual -posting tag will also be included.
Now, for the second project- One I’m going to be a bit more secretive about…
I’ll Object Show You!
My own object show that’s early in production, I’ll Object Show You follows twenty contestants on their mission to win the titular competition show, I’ll Object Show You. From the short-tempered stubborn Revolver to the cautious and quiet Boulder, who will win it all? Furthermore, will they discover the mysteries behind the Administrator, the show’s enigmatic host?
All this and more remains to be seen… and I’m excited to Object Show You! I want to make this an actual object show, so I won’t be revealing major plot beats. Just character assets as I create them, background art, other concepts— And obviously, adverts for the show proper when it’s ready to go!
The tags for IOSY will be as follows:
#IOSY / #I’ll Object Show You! - Main tags, for everything related to the show!
#IOSY[character] / #[character]IOSY - Character tags, for any characters depicted or mentioned within the post!
#IOSYassets / #IOSYbackgrounds / #IOSYconcepts - Specific tags to categorize the kind of art I’ll be making for the show!
There’s a chance other tags for the show will come to pass, but expect every IOSY post to fall under the main tags listed above. I likely won’t have a lot to show for IOSY for a while, since these shows take some time to make, but I’m going to pedal to the medal soon! I hope to see you there as the first episode approaches release!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to hit up my askbox! Thank you for reading, and have a great rest of your day! - Cheese
On account of RECENT EVENTS. I now have an ipad and procreate!!!
I will hopefully be using this to work more on Object Houses and IOSY— The former of which will be getting some more in-depth posts VERY soon. I’ll share some of my traditional art later today, and from then on I’ll be going the path of the digital!
