Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that affects approximately 1-2% of the population. Those with OCD experience intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviours that they feel compelled to perform in order to alleviate anxiety or distress. While OCD is often viewed as a maladaptive and debilitating condition, some researchers have proposed evolutionary perspectives on OCD that suggest it may have served a beneficial function in our ancestors.
