Welcome to my long post where I compile my headcanons on mating and behavioral patterns and how that may translate into having a human body. Along with my personal headcanons for when I write and depict the character listed. You don't have to agree with me, but thank you for hearing me out!
Physical Disabilities - Mr. Long Legs
For me, when I write and depict Azul, I like giving his human form more issues than Jade and Floyd. Azul normally has eight legs instead of just two. I think that he has chronic pain in his human legs from having to support his skeletal frame and he isn't used to it.
He doesn't tell anyone this, including Jade and Floyd they know so he does use his mage pen as a cane. As depicted in his Dorm SSR!
Azul doesn't wait the tables at the Mostro Lounge because his body can't handle the work. That's why he leaves the Tweels to whip the little minnows on board into shape! Azul constantly has to rest so he's usually sitting in his office. It does get very lonely and sometimes he will bring himself to sit at the bar or he can gather strength to walk around and check on everyone but that's it.
During classes Azul will have little distance to cover. He is capable of walking but it does fatigue him which is why he struggles so much in PE. That, and with only two legs he can't get a grasp on his broom. Which makes him the worst flyer. He wants to improve and get better but there's only so much he can do with the human body he has.
Physical Disabilities - Four Eyes
Azul does need glasses in canon, at least on land. His science goggles have prescription lenses, and he does wear them in most of his cards. Azul is near sighted. If you didn't know, water bends light differently than air. In the hypothetical case that humans can swim with their eyes open for long periods of time, near sighted people would see a stark improvement in their vision! The lenses of the in a near sighted person eye has a shape that makes light focus in the front of the retina.
So out of water and viewing light through air instead of water is what gives Azul trouble on land and the need for glasses... He got a shit deck of cards didn't he?
Mental Health - Hunger Pains

Azul is a very interesting character he always has been for me. He is a great villain with a LOT of issues he's working out. Some can't be fixed. Some he has to recognize are issues. I know this is a canon fact that it is implied Azul has an eating disorder. But I think he specifically has 'ana brain' which is usually where you become meaner and look for someone to enable you.
I sometimes think he has BED which is binge eating disorder. But that could be something he had from his childhood during his parents divorce/his father in his life which made him eat from stress and seek comfort in food. In the manga we see a small flashback of him being happy while eating. And in Book 7(?) we get to see the restauraunt his mother runs. Implying that he adores her cooking, and perhaps things changed after he dealt with bullying.
With the stage Azul is at now in his life; he would rather die before letting himself over eat. But in turn that transformed into him not eating at all. Which... Could also contribute to issues with fatigue and pain in his body (developing osteoporosis from lack of nutrition).
Courtship - Hardwired to Survive
Octopi mermen have a special way to court others in their species. They will change their colors and patterns to visually enchant their mate of choice. Not only to stand out from other males, but to show a potential female how bright and flashy and cool he is!
However, Azul in a human body... He can't really do that. Thankfully he has no competition! Instead, when attempting to court you, he wears cute and colorful ties. Sometimes funky patterned socks or a floral print shirt. He wants to become visually appealing since he cannot change his skin to be neon and patterned with blue speckles.
Octopi mermen don't mate on a fixed schedule. But instead it's based on temperature of the water. The ocean doesn't really cool and if so, it takes a long time. Tropical mermen mate all year round regardless of season. The Coral Sea is close to Ultramarine City which is in the Sunshine Lands. A country famous for it's friendly association between humans and mermen.
Ice covers most of the sea during the winter and melts away in the spring. So, for Azul in human form, you can assume that he would rather get it on and feel frisky more towards late spring and early summer. Not too warm, but warm enough. Cozy...
As a merman, Azul is also very big. But females are bigger. In most cases, females can be very aggressive during mating and courtship which leaves octopi mermen scrambling away willing to risk a leg or two. Some escape with a head injury after having something thrown at them. To reduce the risk of harm, most males extend their hectocotylus (a special tentacle that's basically a penis) towards the female to slip it inside of her in order to fertilize the eggs. A very awkward situation as the female glares over her shoulder at him...
Even if you aren't a woman, Azul is still hardwired to survive. He does awkwardly pull his dick out of his pants trying to figure out how to insert it. He doesn't want to get hurt! So it takes some time coaxing him and convincing him that it's safe. But sex usually starts with you facing away from him and promising you won't whip your arm back and punch him.
The Body - Below the Belt
When it comes to writing about Azul's physical body I personally translate his merform into human form as much as possible. Mermen do not magically become mammals just because they look human. They are still cold blooded and they are fish. So that means they still have traits of fish? If you read some of my alphabets you may have seen me mention how condoms aren't something the Octrio invest in because their milt cannot get you pregnant in human form. Think of it like... You aren't compatible anatomically because of magic. Mermen can produce sperm but it has dna to create another merman. In a human body, that dna is magically changed and so is their sperm.
Without the long winded rant; his dna was changed to make a human baby in a human body. But that's not possible because this is temporary magic, making him temporarily infertile. So feel free to get it on as much as you want as a humans. I won't discuss his size and girth and cum-sistency (badum tss) because that can be/was done in a smut alphabet post. So for the entire cock and ball conversation I can get scientific here but sexy elsewhere!
As a merman Azul is very used to freeballing. He doesn't really have a choice since most mermen don't need to wear clothes because they don't have sex organs like mammals do. Including nipples and exposed genitalia with the exception of Azul and his hectocotylus. He does have an awkward time with undressing and seeing his magnificent tentacle shrunken down.
It's a natural thing that happens when transforming but he doesn't want to show it to you. What if you're mean to him?! It isn't small or anything. Well, in his eyes it is. Azul is more thick than long due to the shape he has in his merform and his has a darker skintone. But he's invested time into studying human intercourse and worries that his doesn't look like the humans in those raunchy videos. His life is over before it even started!
Freebie From Me - Personal Headcanon
This is something I sometimes draw or write as a subtle detail that will never be canonically confirmed because this is a Disney property. We have seen Azul as a merman and he does have speckles on his body along the darker parts of his skin.
So when I write adult scenes or draw him for anatomy reasons I will sometimes include a beauty mark on his inner right thigh. This is to match the one just under his lips and I think it's a cute and small detail. I think he gets embarrassed if you point it out and he wouldn't be a fan of you poking it or prodding at his leg just to look for more of them.
This isn't something I've personally seen anyone discuss or also agree/disagree with but it exists for me. I wish that he had a few freckles or other marks on his skin because his merform has some. And it's also very special to see him without pants and oh, so, vulnerable to your gaze! Now, you have to share some fun facts about your body with him.
