Ananda, sniffling as she trudges into the room several hours before dawn: Daddy?
Evan and Manoj, both groaning as they struggle awake, Evan rolling over to mumble: Manny?
Manoj, with effort: Before Fajr, she’s your daughter

As I’ve been up at four am, I’ve been doing more research for Manoj. Something was bothering me, and I knew somewhere my research had been inaccurate in the past.
Back when I first made Manoj, he was just a name and a faceclaim. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t done the amount of research I should have when I picked out his name. This was compounded when I picked the name Ananda for his daughter. The names and their backgrounds were at odds, and it’s been bugging me for a while. So I’m hopefully fixing it by amending Manojs family origins!
Manojs family is from southern India, specifically Tamil Nadu, and they’re Tamil speaking Muslims. The family name is Kishor, which was Manojs great grandfathers name.
Also, I’m changing Manoj, Evan, and Anandas last name from Rook to Rosenthal (Evans new family name). This is for two reasons: I’ve never liked their last name being Rook, and I want to take Manoj further out of fc5 and more into just being an original oc!
Rolled out of bed this morning having suddenly remembered it was pride month! Happy pride y’all!
Manoj and Evan adopt a pitbull named Susie, and she’s Ananda’s absolute favorite thing ever. Ananda once wandered off into the woods when she was four, and Manoj and Evan were freaking the fuck out. They ended up finding her bc Susie was pulling her by her pants back to the house.
Manoj family sketch sheet! The bottom right is from when Manoj took a widowmaker branch to the face at work, and got his big scar. Ananda was barely a year old, and she cried when Manoj tried to hold her when Evan and her visited him in the hospital (which made him cry too). Prema is Manojs sister.
3, 4, 5, 16 and 17 for Ananda
3. What is the meaning behind their name? Do they have any nicknames?
Ananda - bliss or divine joy. She sometimes gets called Annie for short.
4. Do they have any siblings?
Nope! She’s the only one. Manoj doesn’t really want to go through another pregnancy, and they are happy just having one kid (anymore and they’d have to upsize to a new house lmao).
5. What’re their relationship to their parents like? Other relatives?
Ananda has a really good relationship with her parents, for the most part. She has just. So much family. Family out the ears. Manoj’s family is very big, and she has dozens of cousins. Evan’s family is just him and his parents, so Manoj’s family kind of just absorbed them.
16. Are they religious?
Yup! Manoj is Muslim, and Evan is Jewish, and they raised her with both faiths, because they wanted her to be able to make her own informed decision about her beliefs and spirituality when she was old enough. She started wearing a hijab the summer before she started highschool.
17. Where were they born?
Ananda was born in Portland, Oregon!
Ananda is such a smart little trooper. By the time she’s in highschool, she’s already fluent in four languages. Tamil, bc Manoj’s parents speak it at home, Arabic, bc she knew enough Arabic to read the Quran and pray, but not quite enough to keep up with her west Asian friends at the mosque, English, and Hebrew, bc Evans parents paid for her to go to Hebrew summer school to expand on the basics she knew from Evan & schul.
When she gets to highschool, she pitches a fit at the mandatory two years of foreign language bc she’s already fluent in four, what the hell. They don’t make an exception for her, and so she ends up taking Spanish (which Evan is fluent in for his translation work he does). She struggles so hard, bc she’s never actually hard to really work to learn a language, she’s only really ever acquired them before.
In preschool, she was an absolute menance for her teacher, bc she was just a little polyglot with too many languages banging around in her head. More than once Manoj got a call from her teacher that went “Ananda won’t stop crying for her [childish tamil word for stuffed animal] ? Help”
