Anonymous sent: “I know I'm just bein' a hater, but, fuck do I hate ranfren OCs, like most of them don't even fit in the story, and blah blah blah”
Anon, I don’t quite mean any offense, but did you simply not read the rules for submitting before sending this idiotic ask? I don’t quite understand why you’d think that this would be a space for you to send this considering that in the pinned post it is quite literally italicized that I will not be posting any confessions regarding OCs.
Funny how you “know how to just ignore and scroll” like you say, so why don’t you do the same to the creators of said OCs? Isn’t that literally what the block button is on Tumblr for? So why you’d come to a blog that clearly does not accept OC confessions (and especially OC hate), to waste minutes of your life babbling about how much you hate OCs that aren’t even canon characters so it’d make sense for you to go on about how much you hate them?
I suggest that you use the blocking and tag-filtering functions more if it bothers you so much because really no one is forcing you to look at their OCs,
“I just felt like expressing myself on that, since I can't talk about it to anyone. :3” And why exactly can’t you talk about it? Are you too much of a coward? What a pretentious pile of bullshit coming all from just one ask. In fact, do post about it publicly if you’re so upset about it; you’d be doing both you and me a favor, as well as a favor for the OC creators so they know who to avoid.
And before you lose any more of your time to send in another ask, be it for half-assed apologies or getting mad at me for whatever reason, don’t even bother, because I will certainly not answer and typing this post was enough of a bother for me.
That text was written by @courtneyreal They are a friend of mine. That text talk about my DWD OC, and some trauma i had. They wanted that i share it on my Tumblr since it didn’t worked on their tumblr for some reason.
Every piece of media has its own fanbase circulating around it. And most of these fanbases have fan stuff. One of those things and stuff are also OCs. OC stands for original character if you're braindead enough to not know that. So, sometimes fandom roleplaying gets boring with just the canon characters. And the fandom spices it up with, you guessed it, OCs!
They can either be too Over Powered (OP), shipped with someone, have special abilities, ect.
The fandom either rejects the concept of the character or accepts it. But, even if accepted, it still gets its fair share of hate. (Not really the character but the creator, mostly)I am going to take my friend's Darkwing Duck OC, Hannah, as an example. Her OC is a witch married to the main character Drake Mallard (Darkwing Duck) and has kids with him (fan made kids). The main ship of that fandom is Drake x Launchpad (Drakepad) which she doesn't like and the OC's purpose i think was somehow stopping the idea of the fandom favorite ship.We usually play pony town together, cosplaying the characters and roleplaying. I made some of the kid characters by the way. Anyway, so my friend makes art of the OC and the OC's family and shenanigans they get in to. So we sometimes rp, give each other ideas.... But, as always, there's the fun stopping people. They have PMed my friend, telling her that her OC is a whore. Telling her she has a mental issue. Telling her she's homophobic for not shipping the before said ship. Bunch of accusations and then later on muting her. And, this wasn't even the first time. I could go on and on... And i can understand that creators like that get hate, sometimes not handling the hate, sometimes getting even more harassment by alt accounts of the same person... Blocking them would result in the creator being " weak ". So, I think the best solution is to start defending the OC and then later you. With calmness and less swearing and yelling.
You wanna unfollow me because you'd rather read something you can place yourself in, be my guest. You wouldn't be the first anyway.
Don't judge me, or anyone who's spending time doing what they love because it doesn't suit your own likes and fantasies. Take up a freaking pen and do it yourself!
I started writing a game rewrite and they called it crazy, but look how many people began writing their own after reading mine.
I'm VERY damn proud of each and everyone of those people! THEIR stories, THEIR OCs, THEIR way of thinking and writing.
You CANNOT tell us how to write, you CANNOT tell us what to write, and you CANNOT stop us from doing our thing.
If there's at least one person standing beside us, we'll keep going.
Enough is enough.. I'm taking anonymous off for a while so this crap will stop. Everyone being nice and precious on anon, I'm sorry.
I appreciate everything you send, good or bad, but you have to see the bigger picture here. Some have things to deal with. Important things. Not whose fictional junk they'll read about licking.
I wrote a ME fanfiction about two OCs during a time when I was feeling really low and battling a serious burnout and depression. The story isn‘t much, but writing it helped me greatly in my healing process, so I put it on AO3 nevertheless, hoping someone might like it.
Now it seems that somebody read the fic up on AO3, found me here and sent me this anonymous ask that was basically pure hate, simply because my character‘s name is Jane. Hey, I happen to like the name and my Shepard‘s called Jordan, so where‘s the problem?
Apparently I‘m not allowed to call my OC Jane because that‘s Shepard‘s name exclusively and that makes me a bad person. In a nutshell: My story sucks, my OCs suck, and I‘m a disrespectful bitch who sucks as well.
Needless to say, it made me feel REALLY bad.
Yes, it‘s my first ever fic, it‘s not the best, but it got a few reads and a few kudos, eg it made a few other people‘s day a bit brighter, and that‘s all that matters to me.
I‘d be more than happy to recieve well-funded criticism, but I wasn‘t prepared for all this pointless hate.
What happened to tolerance? To different opinions and ideas? How difficult is it to just stop reading if you don‘t like a story? Why spend so much negative energy spreading hate and poisoning others? I really don‘t get it!
Up to now I always thought that the ME fandom was friendly and accepting, but although this is just one single ass raining on my party it made me really sad.
// I debated whether or not I wanted to post this, but I just can’t stand seeing and experiencing this! If you have a problem with me speaking up for myself or asking for respect and need to unfollow me I understand.
All characters at one point were OC’s, I don’t get how people don’t get this.
That isn’t even the biggest issue though, there is for some reason this assumption that OC”s are shit, undeveloped, or just there for the sex. I HATE seeing this, as an OC and as someone who rps. I have spend years, and this is not an exaggeration, developing my muse. I have spent years adding verses, tweaking them, keeping them up to date. I have made my OC unique, and I have quite honestly put more work into my OC than I have into any of the canon characters I have rp’d as.
I get that sometimes OC’s can be under developed, but so can canon characters. I am sure that all of you have seen someone who has just put a link to a description of their canon chracter from a wiki fandom page or something similiar. They offer no headcanons, no thought, nothing in their own words. When I am trying to rp with someone that is so frustrating because I want their perspective on the character, not something someone else wrote. I get how sometimes OC’s can try to come in and make things a certain way, I deal with that here and on my canon rp blogs, telling me how I should Rp my character because that is how they see them.
I dread seeing people say they just don’t rp with OC’s and don’t ask, people who think OC’s are just these puppets who can move around. If I see this I am less likely to rp with you on my canon blogs. You are obviously free to be selective, but casting out a whole group of people just because of what they are is not okay. I have had people who have come to me and say something to the effect that they weren’t going to or with me, but then they saw i have so much detail or congratulate me on being an OC that is actually detailed. MOST OC’S ARE DETAILED, they offer just as much information if not more than canon rp accounts. I don’t take this as a compliment I find it sad. I have had people recently who obviously have not read about my character, have not read my rules, and don’t even know my characters name! I have people who assume that because I am an OC with Anna Popplewell as my fc that I will rp as Lola or Susan.
THAT IS SUPER DISRESPECTFUL, we understand if you make a mistake but please let us know that you made a mistake and you are sorry. STOP TREATING US LIKE WE’RE NOTHING.
I have cracked because this has happened more and more recently, combined with the fact that I for the past 2 years have gotten hate mail every single day about how I need to stop taking away the attention of a canon character, how shitty OC’s are, how I need to stop getting in the way of ships.
Then I have people who are bossy and act like I should be happy they are deeming a measly OC their time, and how I should listen to them and do what they say. If I don’t do what they say or add something they don’t like they will ignore it. Or how they will talk to me OOC but no rping because OC’s aren’t great for threads.
IF I DID THIS TO YOU AS A CANON CHARACTER I WOULD NEVER HEAR THE FUCKING END OF IT.
And I see this happening not just to me but to others, and it makes me so sad. I honestly can’t explain in words how upset I get when I find people who have anxiety attacks or get depressed because people are treating them like shit.
PLEASE RESPECT YOUR OC’S- even if you don’t rp with them. Treat them like you would a canon chracter.
