One of my friends says Bori should have a cat. There was a time where I played with him having a coeurl, but I haven't touched on that in a long while, and don't intend to come back to the idea. Bonus cameo of Daoloth with his gimmekitten cuz he'd just gotten it when I was drawing these, I think.
Also: more art of Sylbyrm, and Bori's ex and kid! When they first showed up in Old Sharlayan, this one historian kept approaching them, but whenever Bori turned his attentions to him, the little Roegadyn fled. It wasn't until some time after Zot that the stranger finally gathered the nerve to tell Krystbryda that he has reason to suspect a relation with the famed Mourning Star, he just didn't know how to broach it without getting blown off- or worse, beaten up for trying to make an audacious claim with little evidence.
She just laughed and said to be forward with him, with the reassurance that the worst he'd do was turn it down and quietly ignore the guy. Hell, invite him to lunch and it'll go down all the smoother. All things considered, it was a decent first proper meeting, but they had to set aside a proper introduction later, once this whole mess with Fandaniel's settled...
Weary Planning
Prompt: "This is it, isn't it?" | Fictober Day 8
This one's short (which is lowkey a miracle for me lol) but I like it! Hope you do too!

Kero is a neat man, typically. He finds peace in order, in neat organization and straight lines. He organizes things neatly, marks maps clearly, never loses a document of importance. The only messy thing about him are his eyes and his hands.
Sleep is elusive, only coming when battle is not leering over him, taunting him with the deaths that could come by way of his hand. His mind directs the tide of battle and each loss always rests on his shoulders. He works with coal and ink both, and even in the pristine cleanliness of the castle, in times of peace, his hands are stained gray-black.
He is more of a mess now, though, than usual.
His hair sticks up, half dry ink streaked through the bronze locks from the way he runs his fingers through it as he thinks. Those stains never come out easy and when (if) he returns home, he'll be scolded for it, but victory is more important than his vanity.
They had a battle coming up. The battle.
The one that was going to be the end of the war, one way or another.

Unlikely Planning
Prompt: "This was not part of the plan" | Fictober Day 18
Same world/characters as this prompt and yesterday's. Reading those is not necessary. Warnings for talk/light description of war, fighting, death.
*****
Kero is used to war.
Many people are. It's been plaguing their kingdom for years. The effects of it are unknown to none. Peasants never truly settle, never truly safe. Nobles have lighter pockets, donations made to battle funds again and again. Soldiers fight.
The king faces the end of his kingdom and his reign.
But Kero knows war better than most.
He's not just in the pits fighting, but up when soldiers are resting, arranging their next moves, holding soldier's lives in his hands. He knows war from all it's sides. The fighting, the behind-the-scenes, the long treks between.
He has the army walk around the range, because going through is all but asking to get trapped. It's a death wish. So they go around, to stay safe, even if it's a longer, harder walk. Even if it's passing into enemy territory.
He thinks they'll be safe from ambushes, as there is no place for a large army to hide -- the landscape is rather barren -- and it would take multiple High Mages to conceal a sizeable amount of men and they didn't know their army was on the move. So they're safe enough. Maybe there will be a few men, camping in the few alcoves and crannies, but nothing they cannot deal with.
He is wrong.
Here For You
Prompt: "I'm with you, you know that" | Fictober Day 17
Same world/characters as this prompt. Reading that part isn't needed, just has the same characters. Warning for vague war and death mentions.

"Hey," Lina soothes, wrapping her arms around his waist and pressing her head against his arm. “I’m with you, you know that.”
Kero laughs airily, tired. Exhausted down to his soul. If Lina wasn't holding him up, he'd entertain the thought of giving into the exhaustion sitting deep in his bones. "Yeah," he agrees, because that much is obvious. She's followed him across the kingdom, to battle. She would have been in the war either way but she insisted on staying with him, in the most dangerous squadron, marching towards rumors of the enemy's leader, the warring king.
"You shouldn't push yourself so far."
