Odd Times
We recorded so much material over the last 9 months. There was like a huge boom of just work, stressing, coffee, cigarettes, freaking out, trying to book, getting our shit together, our shit falling apart. We put so much blood, love, sweat and tears into MKDRONE. I’m so excited to put it out. So what this blog is dedicated to, is extra music, stuff that doesn’t make its way into Hexes’ material. A separate project geared towards different sounding production.
We were in the middle of a lot of negotiating with somebody to help with production on our record, a lot of looking around for labels, a lot of figuring out how we wanted to release it, that somehow in the downtime I took what we didnt use and started making some new songs out of old personal traumas and fears.
‘Odd Times’ is a collection of work that is me trying to be transparent about my family relationships and close personal friendships. It’s about trying to grow up during tumultuous times. An identity outside of what I thought things were. It’s about losing friends, and seeing my moms mental health slip away due to her illness. Trying to find out who my dad was and then finding out I shouldn’t have ever tried to know who he was. It’s about the times I let my siblings down. It’s about the disappointment I felt not being able to help, but not even being able to help myself in a really weird period of time. Both to a personal degree and a very general degree in regards to the current climate globally(figuratively and literally).
It’s about my fear of death, and how the western world both fetishizes and mourns death. It’s how confusing the concept of death can be in the western world.
I just spent a long time hiding my bruises and I don’t really know why.
