Day 4 - Greed

What better way to depict greed than another lesser known oddworld species:

The Chroniclers.

The lawyers and bankers of the industrial world, always managing the economy, keeping the moolah value up, all that jazz. So I made my own Chronicler OC!! He doesn't have a name yet, but I wanna do this lil' oddworld fancomic/fanfic that features him as a major antagonist;

He's a representative of the Slig Queen Skillya, and he's the one that manages all her wealth and bank accounts, keeping her Moolah secure. The story I wanna do is like, an adaptation of a specific cancelled oddworld game, but I'll cease my yapping, because I assume no one cares. But I hope you like this art.

My new headcanon is that Chronichlers mate like praying mantises and after having sex the female cannibalizes the males head for nutrients. This is considered very erotic for the both of them.

However, I also headcanon that Chronicler brains are in the hunch on their backs and the flesh steeple on their head contains their hearts (like a mollusk). So it's considered normal for male chroniclers to become host bodies for Oktigi after mating, as Oktigi canonically have the ability to take control of bodies post-mortem.

Its a weird mutual benefit cuck-chair ecosystem they have going on. It's not a quite common occurrence, because chroniclers don't always have a desire to mate with one another or reproduce bc they prioritize paperwork over personal matters. But when they do, it's seen as a business transaction because they're very beurocratic. They're like Vogons from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. They sort of submit their desire to mate via form, so that an Oktigi may know about it and be ready for the decapitated male afterwards.

Gotta keep it Odd.

i require chroniclers lore and information, im trying to design the mistress for my oc arabella but i realise its a little hard to find refrences for the species and much info on them. but your the lore buff so shove it down my gullet pls :3 [im intrested in knowing how gender/sex works for them cause the chronicler im making is female]

Hard to say! Chroniclers have literally never made an appearence in game.

There is no information on their gender and sex, perhaps they don't even have sexual dimporphism or various sexes at all and simply present themselves as male to play along with the patriarchy. We literally don't know! Such is the case for a vast majority of Oddworld species.

The only information we have on Chroniclers is what they do and what they look like.

Chroniclers are an Industrialist race that fulfill the beurocratic and financial roles. To source directly from the Oddworld Library;

I quite enjoy the Accountant artwork, the double-handled briefcase to accommodate two arms is such a nice touch.

Should be noted that although the Chroniclers seem to be one-legged in these artworks, OWI stated in 2007 that they are two-legged. There is even an updated Chronicler sketch by Steven Olds that seemingly shows it being two legged (I adjusted the brightness so it would be more visible);

But then again, they've never appeared in a game since they were cut from Munch's Oddysee (where a Chronicler Lawyer was planned to have a role), so we don't know if that's still true, since the sketch by Olds likely predates the paintings by Aebischer.

So, how does gender/sex work for chroniclers? I don't know. Nobody knows. There is next to no information about them let alone about their sexual dimorphism. Maybe they're like Vykkers and are all intersex and simply choose however they wish to present themselves. All we know for sure is that they seem to present themselves as male in the images that do exist of them.
