Matt Bommer at Off the Script round table 2024
The Challenge
A Tyson/Steph Drabble from NSNV - ignoring the prompts list for Mayblade, but I did create this in May so I’m submitting it!
“Then let me ask you something - if the Majestics had qualified for the World Championships, would you have competed with them?”
There was no point in lying to save face - not at this point anyway. “Yes,” she answered, wincing at his sharp intake of breath.
“I knew the moment that Mr Dickenson announced it would be a tag team tournament that I didn’t stand a hope of beating either you or Kai for a spot on the Japanese team,” she explained.
“Becky and I discussed it - the plan was always to enter through the European competition. Entering through the Italian qualifiers guaranteed at least one of us second place against Enrique.
“But when Enrique lost to Miguel, I knew I didn’t have a hope of beating Barthez, so I pulled my entry to retain my seed and got on the next flight to Japan.”
“I didn’t know Ray and Max were planning to leave the Bladebreakers. By the time Becky and I returned, I didn’t see the point of adding insult to injury.”
“So you spared my feelings?” Tyson’s voice rose sharply, accusingly. “Like I’m some sort of child that can’t handle rejection?”
“No - it wasn’t like that,” she said at once. “I didn’t tell you because in the end I decided it didn’t matter - what mattered was that I was where I should be - with my teammate. With my friend.”
“Tyson - regardless of what Matt, or Becky or your brother thinks; our friendship is worth more to me that a beybattle or a championship title.”
He stared at the lake as silence settled between them. She couldn’t tell if he was mad or just disappointed in her - and she couldn’t decide which would be worse. When he finally spoke, his question threw her.
“You wanna know if you have what it takes to beat Enrique, right?”
“Yes - but…”
He shook his head. “So battle me - I’ve been Enrique before, so if you battle me and win, then you’ll know you have what it takes to face him again.”
“I don’t know, Tyson - winning against Enrique is important to me, but it’s not worth losing our friendship over.”
“You’re not losing anything,” he assured her. “You’re my friend - and you’re right, friendship does mean more than a beybattle. But if my history with Kai has taught me anything it’s that rivalries make the best friendships.”
She thought about it. Ultimately her desire to triumph over Enrique won out and she extended her hand.
“Only if you promise me to stay friends.”
“Promise,” he confirmed, shaking her hand. “But if you go off and join the Blitzkreig Boys I’m going to pretend I never knew you.”
She laughed at the thought, glad to hear him crack a joke, however bad it might be.
“Not a chance - Ian is too much of a smarmy little prick and Tala’s got too much of an ego.”
Loo-li loo-li lai-lay (Starlight in-between)
Mar’i did not want to leave her parents, but as much as she wanted to stay, it wasn’t her decision to make. Deep down she knew she’d be safer wherever it was Aunt Rae would take her. But what was the point of being safe, if her parents were in danger?
Then again, just how much does the young princess of Tamaran really know?
Star sang to her that night. An old lullaby. It was filled with a sense of longing-ness, and hope, that one day — they’d be a family again.
“May there always be angels to watch over you
To guide you each step of the way
To guard you and keep you safe from all harm
Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay”
Title: Sleepsong (The Secret Garden)
You ever get that thing where you work on a fanfic and then you hit a block and then you try to research to find a way around that block and suddenly you’re miles deep into an anime that is in an entirely different genre than the one that you’re writing about that you hit a block on?
Yeah...
In other news: Cells at Work is adorable... I highly recommend.
(Also I can’t write fight scenes.)
(Off-The-Script)
The E’ara (original idea by: @kryallaorchid) in action! For those who don’t know about it; it’s basically Tamaranean tech that acts like an album, you can read more about them in Kry’s stories on Fanfiction.net :) If you haven’t checked her out yet, I highly recommend you do. Her stories are awesome~

🎶 Do you remember the times that you and I laughed?
Do you remember the days spent layin' in the grass?
'Cause now it's been years, but I keep lookin' back
The good and the bad 🎶
- 4th of July (by Aidan Gallagher)
(Off-The-Script) I have adopted these three (if it wasn’t clear previously). They are now my children. 💚💜💙 Help me out here guys — What should their little group be called? 🤔

Plot twists
Me, as a reader, in the last half of the book: OMG whaaaat???!? I never saw that coming!! The author really got me there!
Also me, as a writer, within the first four chapters: The friendly uncle is the villain. It’s so obvious it hurts.
