Language used these day...
This is not only in Japan, but I feel that my generation and younger have a rude vocabulary. Every one uses those curse words like you would use Klinex when you have a cold, without thinking what that words mean. I know I am guilty myself but when I hear curtain words used offensively but with no intention of offending someone I am taken a back.
For example, today while I was in my futsal class a boy (around 19-20) said omae (you) to a girl. Which if it would be said to me I would get very angry because I would feel very disrespected and get mad at the boy. Let me explain for those who do not understand the meaning of omae, this term of addressing someone is like calling your professor "hey dude" it has a connotation of lowering the other person or you are more superior than the other. I was taught never to use omae to anyone because it is dis respect. So, back to my story, the boy did not use omae out of anger though, he said it in the meaning of "are you serious dude?". Still, for me I do not feel that it is right for him to call that girl omae. So it made me think why did he call her that? was it because she is skinny, girly girl, who can't play futsal to save her life? Or is it because she is just simply she was a girl. Because I know for a fact that he would not call any other guy or me like that, so was this a covered sexism?
As I said this use of offensive language is not only in Japan, it is everywhere you go, or every media you come across to the use of the offensive words is normal. Now, children learn from a very young age how to use the word "fuck", "asshole", "bitch", etc. It is sometimes shocking, and sometimes the parents are not even aware that their children use those words.
I am not saying that I do not use those curse words, because I do and I am known to be a potty mouth, but sometimes I think and am very ashamed for using those words without thinking what they really mean, and how offensive it could be for other people. Does this mean that our morals have become numb, or the sensitivity foil become thicker? Within friends one might call each other "slut","bitch" but it is okay because we know that they don't mean it that way.
This is just a rant but it still is something one should think about...
