It was an absolute disaster.
In the middle of Rose's office sat the most calamitously wrapped present one had ever seen. There was two different kinds of wrapping paper used [an evident sign that Izuru had ran out of the first kind after multiple failed wrapping attempts] and there was tape everywhere. Hell--90% of the wrapped surface of the 'present' was probably tape.
And beside it stood a very embarrassed looking Izuru.
As Rose would wander into his office, the flustered lieutenant's cheeks would ignite with crimson as he'd scramble to explain the distastefully wrapped thing that he regretfully called Rose's birthday present:
"I-I tried but... I ran out of paper and I-I--"
With a bitter sigh, Izuru gave up. He stepped to the side with his arms folded across his chest in frustration. It was the thought--and the gift on the inside--that counted, right? Underneath the layers of wrapping was a portable, but still notably large, clavichord that Izuru had picked up from an antique shop in The World of The Living a few weeks ago. He was almost certain his captain had yet to obtain one, though his collection of instruments was quite impressive; and even if he did have one then that was too bad--he was getting another one.
As Rose approached, Izuru lifted himself up onto his toes and placed a blue bow on top of his captain's head. A bow that was obviously meant to go on the present itself; but there was no point now. Not with how terrible it already looked. He still smiled though, reeling himself up to deliver a gentle kiss to his cheek.
"Happy birthday, Otoribashi-taichou." He wavered, still slightly uneasy at the display. "Sorry about the mess."
