This is the box I have carved for my Ogams. The symbol is known as Feige Find or Fionn’s Window, it appears in the “Auraicept na n-Écea” an old Irish text on language and grammar. Each ring includes the well known Ogam feda and the forfeda (or additional feda) surrounding the second ring from the outer edge.
The symbol and its original uses are somewhat a mystery but people have adapted it as a meditation tool which ties Irish myth and cosmology together.
The idea here is that it can be used in meditation as a mandala or portal into the otherworlds, starting from the outer edge and moving your attention to the inner circles where the deeper secrets lay.
You'll notice that the feda are set into four “aicme” consisting of five feda running from the outer circle to the inner circle. At the top we have the Beith aicme. The right the h-Uath aicme. The bottom the Muin aicme. And left the Ailm aicme. This set up somewhat reminds me of the Rune Aetts and their categories but obviously not related or the same.
Anyhow I figured I would share a little about what this is and what I've been up to with it.
Hello friends! I have another Ogam reading for you.
Today's reading focuses on how to nurture and protect ourselves during times of intense emotion, helping us take the right steps to master these feelings. Emotions are running high, whether it's you or someone else feeling overwhelmed. Creating a safe space to process these feelings is important. While emotional outbursts may happen, this doesn’t excuse negative behaviour. A calm, safe environment is key to expressing these emotions in a healthy way. Emotional boundaries are crucial. Give space to those who need it so they can work through their emotions without making things worse. You'll be surprised at the growth and positive outcomes that can arise when we allow time, grace, and the right environment to process difficult feelings. Don't push, give yourself and others the space to process, find strength, and ultimately grow from the intensity of their feelings.
Today we might find ourselves struggling with our mental health or unstable emotions, perhaps we run into unpleasant people or we find ourselves being triggered for one reason or another. Chaos abounds, and while we are likely to be faced with the more traumatised parts of our psyche, we need to make sure we don't act self destructively or in ways where we ultimately only make ourselves worse. Be aware that things could be hard today, or you could be met with people who only make things worse. The best bet on how to deal with this energy is to simply walk away if we find ourselves feeling emotionally or mentally unstable.
Today our attention is being drawn to purification of the mind, body and spirit. Before we birth something into our world or set out on a new project or adventure, it would be wise to purify the self so that we do not carry any of the old energy into our new venture. Whatever it is we may wish to set on starting should be done so in a way that is clean and pure. It denotes a feeling of ritual purification before we do any big magickal work for example. Beith is asking us to set some time out of our day to renew our energy so that we can be clear conduits for whatever we wish to focus on. Perhaps have a tidy or a good smudge around the house in order to get the space cleared and ready for the new to enter.
It's likely that a past cycle is coming to a close. Idad holds strong ties to death, ancestors, and the elderly. We're likely in the transitional stage where something must die so the next steps can be taken. As we pass through this phase of transition we are being asked to look back on and respect the lessons we have learnt from our past experiences. We have likely matured a lot from where we once were and can use this knowledge to guide us in our next steps. From a more magickal perspective Idad could be drawing our attention to the long lasting traditions that stay lit within us that have been passed down from generation to generation. It would be very beneficial to study the past and the roots of all things on this day. Perhaps our ancestors know something that we do not.
Today our focus is on our health and well-being. This is a great sign if you're already going through any kind of illness or injury as nGétal is likely indicating that you're on the road to recovery. On a more negative note it can show that, in regards to health, something is out of balance and needs to be brought back into a balanced state. nGétal could be indicating the onset of an illness and wishes to remind you to guard your health by taking precautions. Make sure you wash your hands, eat right, go to the Dr, or anything else you might need to do to protect your well-being and keep yourself healthy. It could also be indicating some kind of hormonal change taking place which needs to be treated with care. On an emotional level the wounded healer archetype is at play here, we might find ourselves being called to look at our wounds in order for us to be aware of them and take the correct steps towards healing. Reopening a wound so we can heal from it correctly is an incredibly difficult task so do be careful if you find yourself taking steps in this direction. The aim of the game today is simply to heal, guard your health and look after your well-being.
Needless to say; I am not a medical professional and this post is absolutely not meant to substitute medical advice. If you have a medical problem that needs medical attention or advice please seek out a professional.
Today we might be called to defend our boundaries and what we know is right. Prickly people are indicated here, you might be called upon to have to stand up for what you believe in to help protect yourself or another. Confrontation is never easy but sometimes we must for not just ourselves but for the sake of others too. Have courage and act, but don't allow yourself to be dragged down, assert yourself and protect your boundaries.
