okay but i am Somft about the idea of the first time ellie gets sick after they settle in jackson

i feel like in fedra, disease would be a big concern, so sick kids in the orphanage would be quarantined off and seen to only occasionally by a minder in a mask. otherwise things like food would just get dropped off at the door. so ellie is used to just being lonely and miserable and sometimes crawling on the floor when she was really sick, too weak to stand.

and then she gets sick in jackson (maybe something going around the school?) and joel?? spends time with her? brings her food and drinks and checks on her regularly? sits next to her on her bed when she’s got chills from her fever?? even props her up against him bc she’s so congested, it’s hard to breathe otherwise

and it’s nice and she kind of thinks she’s hallucinating but what?? gives?? he could get sick?? why is he not just putting food by her door and leaving her to be sick on her own?
