Okay but I can't get this scene out of my head. At this point in the story, Will is the only character who has used his spectral abilities without his full spectre form.

It makes sense, because he's a shapeshifter, and it would be inconvenient to manifest every time he needs to disguise himself.

But at the same time. Is this his personal thing? Or can all students do this with some of their abilities and we just haven't seen it yet? I think everyone can do it, but it takes time and training which makes me wonder where Will learned this.

And again, how could he do this with his wounds? It seems that creating as many as three independent copies requires a lot of effort. How do they work in general?

Will loses consciousness for exactly the length of time it takes to create copies. He woke up as soon as they were fully formed.

Did he give them a part of his mind? Did he tell them what to do? But the copies look so confused. It's like they don't understand what's going on, they don't remember, but they keep acting like Will could. So what exactly do they remember? Just his life? The same memories that Will had recovered? Or maybe only short-term memory is lost and clones know they're in Nevermore, but they don't know what happened at night?

will telling tessa that he thought they could at least talk about books when everyone knows that’s their kryptonite. this loser not so subtly confesses his love to her every other chapter by quoting excerpts from novels and poetry, and he thinks that books are their safe subject?????

Fitz Facts Day 23: William Conningham was born in 1815 and grew up with his foster brother James Fitzjames at their home in Rose Hill. William was a sickly child and often had to see doctors or go on vacations for treatment while growing up. He tried and failed to join the military specifically the First Light Dragoons. Instead he would later go on to inherit great wealth from his family, especially after the tragic passing of Robert and then shortly thereafter Louisa. At the age of 24 he was described as “a young, very tall, very lean, dyspeptical, gentlehearted, rich, and melancholic man”.

At 26, he married Elizabeth Meyrick (more on her later), and moved to London. He began an obsession with collecting art (which honestly being young, alone, and with a bunch of money, why not gain a hobby?) He once spent a thousand pounds on a small crumpled sketch by Raphael. He had amassed the largest private collection of Italian artwork at one point before selling it all without giving a reason (though it’s speculated it was 1849, a year overdue for James’ return). William spent his days as an eccentric politician and staunch atheist who never forgot his foster brother. The death of his oldest daughter suddenly at the age of 17 broke him, with the loss of his parents, his foster brother, and his daughter, William retreated from politics and resumed his lifelong sickness before dying in 1881. Fitzjames kept a portrait of William above his bed in Erebus.
