had to rewatch the Wizard of Oz since the last time I saw it was nearly 20 years ago. of course I'm watching it in the context of Wicked, at least somewhat.
The irony of Fiyero getting a diploma after being kicked out of so many schools did make me chuckle.
But also, they would be so weirded out by Toto, right? Are pets a thing? At least in the musical/movie-verse?
Also the Horse of a Different Color just made me think of Feldspur and I'm worried they'll break my heart with this one. (Imagine Fiyero's response when he recognizes him...oof)
Poor Boq, still crying. Still feeling feelings too large and lofty, even for metal.
But also -- and I hear this was due to an abandoned plotline/character dynamic -- the Scarecrow was really very good with Dorothy. The idea that Fiyero would have been a good dad (might have even wanted to be, some day -- and had that taken from him) is so sad.
All of this being said...if the three of them were appointed rulers of the city by the Wizard...it feels like they could have done something about it. Fiy being in exactly the place to further Elphaba's goals and help the Animals, well- but that's a little bit of the point, isn't it? They both sacrificed everything, and for once they chose themselves. For once they chose a future together.
