Here’s Heddy is in her 20′s, at the height of her career.
She’s a Protector, basically a mix of a monk and a knight. They travel the land, rarely staying in one spot for too long, keeping the peace and helping out where they’re needed. They’re a private sect and aren’t tied to a sovereign or state. They follow the law of the land only if they do not contradict their original vows and beliefs.
Despite this roguish lack of alignment with government or monarchy, they’re still highly respected and are treated as highly as official law keepers. They’re loved far better, as Protectors do not fear to lower themselves to manual labour/medical aid to help the people. Protectors aren’t paid as such. They receive rations and such from their sect but don’t receive money for their service. Often the people they help will offer money in return, but Protectors are bound not to take money for their work but may accept food and hospitality as thanks.
Heddy prefers camping out and hunting her own meals, she hates the idea of taking a meal from hungrier mouths than hers. Ohmi insists on buying a few things for their food once they join up, spices and herbs and oils and Heddy very much appreciates the colour it brings to her meals, and the joy Ohmi’s smile brings to her life.
But she steels herself against such thoughts.
Another rule of the Protectors; no attachment.
And Heddy thinks its the hardest rule she’s ever had to follow.
