Indykota thoughts bc I do actually want to yap. Or at least get through a starting point

these characters make me unbelievably emotional you don't even know

this is all about Dakota’s life and how its affecting the people around them despite how hard they try to prevent their curse from impacting anyone else. when they were young, they found this old witch jar— full of who knows what nasty ingredients— and removed the seal. an innocent mistake. how could they have possibly known any better. but soon after, they start experiencing really dangerous near-miss accidents and general misfortune. coincidences. they just become a very very unlucky kid

Theres no real pattern aside from just. hurting them or deeply inconveniencing their life but it can always be written off; someone hurt them. or it was an accident. or actually this time it was their fault. even if it WASN'T their fault and they KNOW it! Theres just a general sense of foreboding that blankets over their life..... and they just. get this feeling. they will die. Sooner than they should.

so naturally that doesn't do great things for a kids social life.. and Dakota is so SWEET AND KIND they're a DARLING. but they get labeled as a ‘Weird Kid’ and are mostly othered until they meet Indy. still young, they're probably no older than 12 when they meet one another, but Indy's the one that actually talks to them and interacts with them. over time they become inseparable bound at the hip in every other way but romantically really… it means so much to Dakota that there’s someone that doesn’t get weirded out by their strange disposition. No matter what happens, Indy refuses to run off. Anything that affects them both just makes Indy latch on harder.

Dakota needs Indy because they're someone stable among everything else that's constantly out to get them… and Indy is one of the few people that actually BELIEVES them bc they've paid close enough attention to not be able to call every accident just a coincidence. Just having SOMEONE believe them is enough for them to want to keep defending their life, even if they know it’s just kicking the can down the road.

Indy needs Dakota because they need to feel wanted and needed. protecting kota becomes the biggest part of life and probably would have become the Only Thing if Dakota would have let it. he absolutely adores her, and he thinks that if he keeps protecting Dakota that he can do it Forever

wonderful!! so commencing my little yap :)

honarui is just an incredibly soft ship in my head. two softies who are incredibly loyal and fiercely caring for their friends (and their partners... hehe) in their own way!

i like to think that seeing eachother again in rise as one! was a pleasant surprise for both of them as they remembered each other from twilight parade. they weren't thinking of each other all the time but. the thought of the other person was something lingering dormant in their mind...

during the events of rise as one, rui was even more intrigued with honami. she seemed so sweet to him and felt somewhat... affectionate about it? like he wanted to stay with honami's warmth for longer? they couldn't quite recognise it though, and so it never quite clicked for them at that time that they were starting to fall for her.

then sometime later (maybe a week?) he hears from tsukasa that honami visited nonogi park often to walk her dog, shibao. probably because he was talking about saki and somehow the topic ended up being about all of leo/need... rui carefully files the information away in his mind.

he starts going to the park more since hearing that. but not for the girl he hardly knew, no, no! just for inspiration for his shows. yes, you could see all types of people in the park after all. not just her...

but he did end up seeing honami there! and since their first few encounters, it started to slowly develop into routine.

honami was initially pretty surprised to see rui there at first. but then she slowly got used to it, and now, chattering to rui on walks around the park with shibao was a regular experience. as she started to get closer with rui, she realised that she had feelings for him, which made her incredibly self conscious about their outings, almost as if they were... dates...!

so she starts avoiding nonogi park for a couple of weeks. bc she can't bring herself to talk to rui without feeling super flustered.

(this causes haru to be suspicious on why his sister is acting so different, but he doesn't comment on it)

after a few weeks rui starts to get worried. why was honami avoiding him? did he do something wrong? did he hurt her feelings with something they said? how could they make it up to her? so after some contemplating (and an odd ache in his heart he cant quite explain) he plucks up the courage to ask tsukasa about honami's address. he didnt want to embarrass her by going to miyajou or anything. he would stick out like a sore thumb. also the rest of leo/need were there, and honami had mentioned to keep their friendship a little secret.

tsukasa doesnt quite get it, but he obliges, because rui simply looks worried and desperate. and after a couple of days honami is astonished and shellshocked to see lo and behold rui kamishiro holding some chocolate at her doorstep on the weekend. grateful that no one was home - for her mom was at the store, her dad with some friends and his brother on a playdate - she invites rui in, really embarrassed.

maybe she can tell him about how she feels...?

... does she have the courage for that?

after some small talk rui gets straight to the point, asking rui why he was avoiding them and apologising in case he upset or scared her. honami feels even more guilty now, knowing how rui felt about her avoiding him, about simply just leaving him...

and so she just says it.

"i like you, kamishiro-kun!"

interrupting ruis apologetic ramble and causing him to all but pause in his tracks.

and this is when it all comes together for rui.

i understand that maybe rui would be the one who realises his feelings firdt in someones head, but i like to think that he was so comforted with honami's presence the thought never came to his mind, happy to be with honami and bask in her warmth.

rui at first is dead silent. honami is now FREAKING OUT, understanding that she like. confessed to him. romantically.

but rui doesn't get mad. he doesn't get closed off. he doesn't want to leave honami now.

so he takes honami's hand and kisses the back of it. when honami freezes, stopping her apologising ramble, all rui responds with is...

"does this answer work for you, mochizuki?"

honami melts, her knees weak.

and then they kiss /hj

i completely get what you mean w/ rui not realising that he's fallen for her. he's probably so used to being happy that he has wxs that he doesn't even realise that this is a whole new feeling 🥲
