[ID: Digital sketch of Grantaire. He's sitting back looking to his left with a smirk. His right leg is crossed over revealing light blue crocs with a red flower detail. End ID]
MY HEART IS MOURNING. I AM NOT OKAY. about to vent my feelings out.
stranger things vol 2 spoilers ahead…
some things from the past few weeks
hello I am delighted to inform you that “habit stacking” (ie adding a new habit onto a thing you consistently do) seems to be working?? I’ve been having a hard time getting myself to run this spring because I HATE running and I never ever ever want to head out for a run when it’s the first or only workout thing I’m doing that day. but I DO love skating, and when I finish a skating workout I’m always 1) in a good mood and 2) channeling my inner sidney crosby (ie feeling like a Strong & Hardworking Athlete). so I’m ready to tackle more exercise, I’m already sweaty/in workout clothes, and I have to walk Pip anyway—which makes it easy to stack running onto the existing habits (skating + walking the dog).
I’ve also been keeping the minimum running time low (12 min) so I don’t start dragging my feet because it feels like too much work. but in the last 10 days I’ve gone for 5 runs using habit stacking—two 12 min, two 16 min, and one 24 min. that’s 80 min of running, which is so much more than the 0 min of running I would’ve otherwise done!!! plus when you give yourself an easy/realistic minimum instead of setting a punishing goal I find that it’s more fun to be like “oooh I’m done I could keep going right? I bet I could.” anyway I have no aspirations to be a Runner I would just like to be the kind of person who can head out and run 30-40 min anytime I want to.
anyway there’s your atomic habits update. morning walks have not been going as well mostly because I think I have not quite yet cracked the code on that habit. you’re supposed to make it easy and make it fun/rewarding, and I can make it easy but I can’t seem to make it fun yet... still haven’t quite figured out the thing that will motivate me to get out the door. ooh the other thing I’ve been doing is opening my WIP and adding at least one substantive detail or scene idea right before bed every night. five nights and counting so we’ll see... that’s a fun one though so I don’t think it’ll be too hard to keep that up.
