TOKYO OLYMPICS: Logo (1964) - The 1964 TOKYO OLYMPICS GAMES ON PAPER (Part 1/10)
As the Tokyo 202/2021 Olympics Games are finally confirmed despite complete chaos about attendance, sanitary rules and lack of any international visitors, I thought it is time to revisit the first Olympics Games hosted in Tokyo, 57 years ago back in 1964.
The Games were among the most influential of the Modern era mainly due to the masterpiece movie, Tokyo Olympiad, filed by Kon Ichikawa and released to both critical and popular acclaim in 1965.
Akira Kurosawa had actually been the first choice of the Olympic Comitee but his ultra perfectionism and demand to plan himself the opening and closing ceremonies on top of filming the Games were too much for the rigid comitee
The Games were a huge success, showcase to a revitalized Japan, both Modern and traditional
This week’s BLOG gather most of the posters designed for both the Olympics Games and the Tokyo Olympiad movie
We start with the first large original poster, out of 4 different, designed by Yusaku Kamekura for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics games, featuring the Olympics rings under the rising sun. One of the most striking Olympics logo designs ever.
