Let us recognize the profound impact and resilience of indigenous peoples of North America, including the Omaha Tribe.

Yes, I have Omaha native ancestry on my mother’s side but I also have Creole heritage on my father’s side. I am still proud to share my mixed heritage especially my Native American heritage with you guys within my illustrations like this for example; this is the most profound and really captivating Native American portrait I’ve ever drawn especially on Procreate!

I also added this important Omaha proverb in my digital illustration as this teaching underscores the Omaha’s core values of respect and balance, both essential to the well-being of the individual and the community. This importance continues to offer guidance not only to their own people but also to those seeking to live in harmony with the world around them.

i have to admit, i don't know a ton about this. i do know that four tribal nations in nebraska declared states of emergency from the flooding: the ponca tribe of nebraska, the omaha tribe of nebraska, the winnebago tribe of nebraska, and the santee sioux nation.

i reblogged a podcast from indianz.com about the flooding — it's in the "native american" tag.

i also just reblogged a post about the pine ridge reservation in south dakota (which i actually queued up just before i saw your question yesterday!).

i believe the large donation/update post from @nebraskas includes donation information for affected reservations. i'll reblog it again here.
