âNili!â The Doctor shouted as the ground suddenly rumbled and debris dropped, filling up the hall between the two.
âIâm fine, Doctor!â Nili shouted, coughing from the dust. She looked at the chunks of ceiling separating the two. âI canât see a way through thisâŠâ
âThen go around a different way; Iâll meet you back at the TARDIS!â The Doctor shouted as the ship rumbled again. âAnd hurry! I doubt this ghost ship can survive this battlefield for much longer!â He yelled over to her. She nodded, forgetting he couldnât see her for a moment.
âSee you there!â Nili shouted, turning around and backtracking through the corridors. As she stumbled her way through the halls, she managed to find a map or something of the spaceship.
âOkay, TARDIS, hereâŠâ She muttered, pointing at parts in the map. Nili continued to think out loud, which was probably the only reason for the next few things to occur.
âHello?! Is someone there?!â Nili was shaken out of her thoughts as she heard a voice from the other end of the corridor. âHelp! Get me out!â She glanced back at the map for a moment before racing down to the door where the voice was coming from.
âAre you okay? Whatâs wrong?â She shouted, the door opening smoothly. As soon as it did, Nili couldnât help but gape at the spectacle before her. It wasnât the situation the owner of the voice was in. It was what she saw on the other side of the glass, opened up to space, and the display of war she saw before her. Chunks of ships floated uselessly, blasts and short-lived fireballs were tossed about, but worst of all, tons of bodies and body parts were strewn across the battlefield, dotting the skyline like stars.
âOver here!â She tore her eyes away from the sight, turning to a red-skinned man with purple fish-fin ears, donning a white dress shirt and black pants. His yellow eyes were wide with fear and his hands were cuffed to the railing of the bridge. She could see a huge patch of dried blood adorning his forehead, but she couldnât help but feel confused as to how he was still here if that was the case.
âHow the hell are you still alive? I thought this was supposed to be a ghost ship.â Nili said, inspecting the cuffs to see if she could actually do anything.
âThis is a ship of Enorians. When our species gets into a fatal situation, we go into a period of hibernation.â He explained quickly. Nili looked around the bridge, looking for any sort of blunt object she could smash the cuff chains with.
âMove aside.â She muttered at him, readying the end of a pipe that was scattered across the floor. âHow long, and how did it happen?â The Enorian made a face of disdain, one completely unrelated to the fact that she was slamming the pipe very close to his clawed hands.
âSpace pirates.â He spat out. âThey raided the ship, made me show them to where we keep some of the valuables safe after killing most of the crew, including the captain, and handcuffed me here. Our hibernation cycles differ, but Iâve always had a shorter cycleâŠI guessed weâve been floating out here for at least five days. Ow!â He hissed as she accidently crushed his hand, at the same time breaking the cuffs.
âSorry!â She retorted quickly, wincing as he gripped his hand. Nili then asked the question that would probably kill her the most. âHow many people are still on the ship?â She asked warily.
âWellâŠmost. At the very least, 300 families alone, not counting the crew, engineers, or staff.â Nili winced. She had been planning to run right out of here and straight to Space Florida, their original destination. NowâŠthis doesnât really seem worth it. She looked to the bridge, eyeing the systems and their flickering power statuses.
âIs it possible for the ship to still fly?â
The Doctor paced within the TARDIS, getting worried and anxious very quickly. It was a bad idea to leave Nili alone in the first placeâŠwhile she didnât get lost easily, she definitely got distracted easily. Not to mention with the huge war going on out there, things would be getting very hairy if they didnât leave soon. Suddenly, there was a huge rumbling, as if a large engine was trying not to break apart and explode. It was definitely getting very dangerous. The Doctor turned to the TARDISâs console, starting up a scan for signs of life. She was the only person on board after all, other than himself. It wouldnât be thatâŠ.what?
âWhat? ButâŠthat canât be, I did this test only fifteen minutes agoâŠâ He ran the test again, only to get even more confusing results. On the ship, there were six signs of life - one in the engine rooms, one on the bridge, and the others scattered throughout suites within the ship. He felt the same rumble again, only to be jerked from the console, to the side. He knew that feelingâŠthe ship was moving at high speed. ButâŠthat was impossible! He started working on getting a connection to the communication on the bridge. Finally, after a very annoying period of time buffering, he got a visual. One that should not have surprised him in the least.
âDoctor!â He was caught between laughing, groaning, and just plain confusion.
âWha- NiliâŠYouâre driving the ship!â He shouted. On the other end, he could see her smile uneasily.
âWell Finiq had his hand crushed by a pipe - which was completely not my fault - and he had his head bashed by pirates. I might as well. BesidesâŠnot that hardâŠâ She chuckled humorlessly.
âWhat happened to meeting up at the TARDIS? I waited here for five minutes!â The ship rumbled again, making her very nearly lose her balance.
âChange of plans, Doctor - there are over 300 people still likely alive on this ship. Finiq told me theyâre Enorians - they go through a hibernation that I guess canât be picked up by a normal scan for life.â She explained. Oh. Well that would definitely explain it.
âNili!â Shouted a voice from the door in the bridge. âWe got a problem!â The ship rocked with another rumble.
âWhat?â She shouted over her shoulder.
âI canât access the engine room! The doors are dead-locked, and all the other paths have collapsed!â Nili groaned very loudly.Â
âCâmon! Finiq, there had to beâŠâ Nili suddenly whipped her head to face directly at the screen.
âDoctor, isnât the TARDIS right next to the engines?â He grinned at her implication.
âYes Nili. Yes they are. Be right back!â He shouted, jumping over the small staircase and slamming open the TARDIS door.
Nili watched as the Doctorâs face exited the screen, focusing her gaze back onto the area she had to pass. Finiq told her that the navigation system was luckily working, so they could very easily get back to Enor, his home planet. However, the engines were at 1/4 power, and the shields were at 29%. They were lucky that the manual steering system was even working, so Finiq immediately had Nili take the wheel, while he tried to get the power up. The ship jerked once more from shockwaves in the battle not too far away.
âYou sure you can do this?â Finiq asked, glancing at the sky through the glass windows, the path ahead looking very bleary and very dangerous.
âCanât be much different from Star Fox 64.â She said, leaning forward as she again attempted to increase speed. âCan we get communication to the engine room?â She inquired, not even glancing at him as she focused to avoid the floating debris.
âUhâŠâ He started pressing buttons on the consoles, until finally they could hear static and the loud cursing of the man down there.
âDoctor?â Another loud curse. âHow do the engines look?â She shouted, flinching as a blazing ball of fire flew right above her sights.
âEverythingâs wellâŠrubbish. I can get the shield power to 68%, but I think I can only make the power go up to 40%, at the very most. Even so, thatâs pushing it.â She hissed out a curse as the fire being shot between the two armies increased. Suddenly, an idea grew into her mind
âWhat about some sort of explosion that we can self-generate? Is there anything that can help propel us forward to, at the very least, get us out of this warfield faster?â There was a long silence on the Doctorâs end as he contemplated this.
âFiniq, do you have core cell processor containers?â The Enorian shrugged, thinking. âThe only type of core cells we have are the Qualin energy cylinders, but itâs for medicine, not explosives.â The Doctor suddenly laughed.
âThatâs actually perfect! Qualin energy can produce a shockwave when suddenly exposed to the pressures and heat of the Poirad Galaxy.â Finiqâs face lit up as he realized their luck. âWith a large enough supply thrown out to space, we can create a big enough boost to the ship to get out quickly - I just need to up the shields to 50% at the very least. Finiq, you have to get as many cylinders as you can and put them into the airlocks. Release them all from the bridge when I tell you to!â He shouted, just as Finiq raced out. âNili, keep driving, and whatever you doâŠdonât crash. I did promise you Space Florida, after all.â Nili laughed bitterly, gripping the handles of the steering tightly.
âThanks for the support Doctor.â She said as the com crackled and all sound disappeared. She was left with the muffled sounds of battle from outside, and she steeled herself to focus. However, that still didnât help her nerves.Â
âWell then.â She muttered, taking one hand off the wheel and reaching into her pockets. âSilence simply wonât do.â She pulled out her iPod, blasted the speakers, and refocused her attention on steering as she heard the very classic and perfect music for going through a warzone.
âYou ainât nuttinâ but a hound dog~ Crying all the time~â She felt herself bob her head with the music, relinquishing any doubts or fear she had in flying a huge non-warship through an extreme and dangerous firefight. Only with Elvis, my friend. Only with Elvis.
Finiq was back before she knew it, not questioning the song that was going on - Rolling in the Deep - but she had to turn it off as the communications crackled back to life.
âFiniq, do you have the airlocks ready to unload?!â The Doctor shouted. Finiq pressed a few buttons before looking back to the coms speakers.
âYes Doctor!â Static filled the speakers again as the Doctor replied.
âNili, be ready to drive through! Itâs going to become very fast very quickly and itâll be difficult to control your steering, so be prepared!â A few secondâs pause as Nili took a deep breath, waiting for the command that would turn all responsibility to her.
âNow, Finiq!â The Enorian pulled down a lever, and for a long second, nothing happened. Blood pounded in Niliâs ears as she waited for the boost, hand on the lever controlling the speed of the ship. All of a sudden, everything jerked forward, and Nili was glad for her prepared stance, for it was a strong force, and she could barely hold on to the wheel and up the manual speed of the ship. As soon as she went as high as she could go, she grasped the wheel once more and started showing off what passed for her steering. To be honest, for a first-timer, she was doing considerable well. However, she was freaking out slightly at all the fire from the battle surrounding them came rushing past as the ship went by. Nili was only a little afraid at the possibility that it could hit the glass and potentially kill her and Finiq within second. But to be honestâŠshe was thinking more along the lines of âif I canât do it, if I die, whoâs going to help these 300 other people on this ship right now?â. Niliâs face refused to break its determined mask and let herself crumple into a wallowing mess of fear instead of helping these people who were more defenseless than she was right then. Her eyes flickered to Finiqâs face, which was twisted into an attempt to hide his own fear. Dammit, even the one with proper training at this crap was afraid. WellâŠif no one else was, she would be. Her mouth tightened into a thin line in her concentration, weaving between debris and fire as she exited the battlefield at an extreme speed. What felt like hours for her dodging everything was actually a few minutes, as soon all they could see ahead of them was clear space, and Nili let herself lose the mask and instead smile at their victory.
âWeâre out!â She whooped, jumping at the wheel. âWe did it!â She glanced at Finiq, smiling fiercely, to see that he himself had a look of extreme relief on his face.Â
âNili, you are definitely going to Space Florida after thisâŠâ She spun around to see that the Doctor had moved the TARDIS to the bridge, and was leaning against the doors. âHowâd youâŠâ Finiq started, instead being interrupted by the hiss of doors opening.
âWhat just happened?!â A very exhausted and roughed-up Enorian suddenly demanded from the doors, grasping at them for balance. âWhy is there a young girl at the wheel of the ship?!â Nili suddenly felt herself become very sheepish, even while the grin refused to be taken off her face.
âPrivate Ganhor, this is Nili and the Doctor.â Finiq addressed the man. Slowly, he started explaining the story, right from the space pirates, to when he woke up, to the evacuation, to the present. Ganhorâs face continued to contort between surprise, confusion, and amazement.
âLittle Miss, you sincerely did all that?â He asked, looking to Nili, whoâs position at the wheel was taken over by the Doctor.
â300 people would die otherwise. What else was I supposed to do?â She countered, shrugging. âAnd DoctorâŠâ She turned to him. âI think itâs time we get going. You did promise me Space Florida.â She said reluctantly.
âYou sure?â Finiq asked. She nodded, and the Doctor let Ganhor take the wheel. âIf thatâs the caseâŠthen thank you, Nili. You saved our lives.â Nili ran over and hugged him.
âIt was nice to meet you.â She said, breaking away and turning to the TARDIS, following the Doctor in. She turned once she had her foot in, however, to see Finiq in a salute, Ganhor in the same gesture. She smiled and nodded, entering and closing the door behind her.
âSpace Florida, home to Disney, Universal, and Hogsmeade, where do you want to visit first?âÂ
